What Shakespear characters would you cast the Losties as?
If you had to cast one of Shakespear’s plays with the characters from Lost who would you cast in which part?
Myself I would cast Jack as Hamlet for all his wishy washiness and indecision.
I would cast Kate in the role of Lady Macbeth for the trail of broken men she leaves all over.

LOST kind of reminds me of The Iliad
I think of Jack as Hector and Locke as Achilles. With MIB and Jacob being the gods above who watch over the battle and intervene where they see fit!
That is a good parallel to draw. I never thought of that.
Also not Shakespeare but Ben could be Oedipus.
In The Tempest
Jacob as Prospero who calls in the ship through magic, Ben as Caliban, the dark creature from the underworld, smoky as Ariel, who does his bidding, and finally Miranda would be Juliet?
In Midsummer Nights Dream
The 815 survivors as the star crossed lovers (Jack, Juliet, Sawyer, Kate) with Ben as Puck, Jacob as Oberon, and Hurley as Bottom.
Or maybe Juliet as Titania and sawyer as Bottom, the ass
LOL, you’re right! Ben would make a perfect Puck!
Hurley and Charlie, maybe Miles, as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
Andre7 – I was thinking the same thing.
Widmore – Richard III or Macbeth
Ben – Richard II or Henry IV
Jack – Hamlet
Sawyer – Julius Caesar (You too, Brutus)
Locke – Brutus
Hurley – Horatio
Penny – Portia (The quality of mercy is NOT strained when you’re waiting for a call EIGHT YEARS later. It wasn’t justice Des wanted, for sure.)
Rousseau – Kate (needs some taming) or Ophelia (really, get thee to a nunnery)
Jacob/MIB – the witches at beg. of Macbeth
Achalli – Really, GREAT question. Totally agree w/Jack – in addition to being wishy/washy he had that ‘to be/not to be’ moment on the bridge (eventually deciding boarding 316 the nobler; at least he avoided the slings and flaming arrows.)
By June we’ll know if “All’s Well That Ends Well” or there was “Much Ado About Nothing”.
Sawyer – Laertes (wrt father’s death)
Richard – Falstaff … ‘cuz you just don’t know where he’ll pop up! (Though Hurley would be be the easy ‘type’ cast.)
Alex – Juliet
Desmond – Romeo
(but not in the same production – ewwww)
Smokie – Ghost of Hamlet’s Father
Glad you like it Waycurious. Seeing Jack as Hamlet is what prompted this theory. I have a huge hatred for Hamlet because of overexposure to the play. I love Macbeth however. You came up with a lot of good suggestions.
Great topic for discussion! How about:
–Ben as Iago in “Othello” (the ultimate schemer)
–Richard as Prospero in “The Tempest” (all knowing on a magical island)
–Locke as MacBeth (always duped into doing others’ bidding and ultimately dies)
–Sun as Juliet (star-crossed lover at the mercy of her parents)
–Jin as Romeo (see above)
–Michael as Othello (the jealous husband)
–Neil (Frogurt) as Sir Toby Belch or Sir Andrew Aguecheek in “Twelfth Night” (comic buffoon)
–Christian Shepherd as Banquo’s Ghost (Machbeth)
–Anthony Cooper as Claudius in Hamlet (smarmy fake father)
–Diane Austin (Kate’s mom) as Gertrude in Hamlet (ineffective Mother)
–Hurley as Puck in “Midsummer Night’s Dream” (just for the irony)
–Kate as Hermia and Juliet as Helena in “Midsummer” (love triangle and always at odds)
*HA HA* Hurley as Puck!
I love McBeth, too – but it was slightly ruined by the horrible version they showed me in HS where they made mache heads the 1/2 the size of a man.
LOVED when they took us to Romeo/Juliet at Stratford Festival in Canada, though. A-mazing production.
Waycurious: I like the idea of Smoky as the ghost, but wouldn<t it be the Ghost of Banquo from MacBeth = Yemi (Eko’s brother?)
Loved the image of Miles and Hurley as the hapless Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Hope they dom’t end up the same way.
imisscharlie: (me2 by the way) Yes Ben is Iago.
Sawyer and Kate always bickering as Bennedick and Beatrice from Much Ado… ?
Waycurious: Who was in the Stratford production you saw?
Andre7, love your comment about Sawyer and Kate mirroring Bennedick and Beatrice!
Rose as Kate (the Shrew) – man, that woman does nothin’ but complain. If she acts like that during ‘the honeymoon’ period, imagine what she’s like after a few years!
Waycurious that’s another good one! Rose is one of my favorite characters but you are spot on about her.
