Why Jacob Made Richard “Ageless”
We know that in “The Incident” Richard tells “Flocke” that he is the way he is (ageless) because of Jacob. I have read theories before questioning what Richard did for Jacob to receive long life, and I think we now have a clue as to what that was.
It seems that the MIB we saw on the beach no longer exists in that exact human body. I believe that Richard was on the Black Rock, and after the ship arrived Jacob somehow befriended or recruited Richard to help him try to kill or trap MIB. When Richard is successful Jacob gives him eternal life somehow. Maybe the force that is in MIB (smokie or Esau or whatever you want to call it) can be purged from the body it is using somehow?
I don’t have solid theories as to exactly what transpired, but Richard obviously recognizes who or what is in Flocke when he sees him, and it seems that Flocke has a reason to hate Richard. I hope that we are able to see this season what happened when the Black Rock reached the shore!

Richard did not recognize MIB for who he is until after Ilana showed him Locke’s dead body. Richard was with Flocke for a while before he went in with Jacob – and there didn’t seem to be any alarms going off for Richard. Also, MIB isn’t actually occupying Locke’s body – he seems to have simply made himself to resemble Locke (we see him walk by Locke’s dead body). But it does seem as though MIB can communicate with the dead, as he tells Ben that Locke’s last thought was, “I don’t understand”.
It all remains to be seen. I just hope Lost gives us two or three more WTF moments in this last season.
I thought it was interesting to see Richard in tonights episode. A totally different animal than we are used to seeing. He always seemed so confident before, now we see he’s not so much of a rock afterall.
I agree about Richard being a totally different persona when he meets Sawyer in the jungle. What could make the immortal guy get nervous and jerky…
Not so much a rock, but I think his vulnerability makes him more sincere. I trust him. And I think after that “shock”, he’s more of a rock now than he was before. GO RICHARD!
Just goes to show you how afraid Flocke makes Richard. He is a monster for sure, and Richard understand thats, and it would pretty much freak anyone out big time.
As for what happened when the Black Rock came, it was pretty much what you are seeing now. Recruiting. I think when Flocke said not many get a 2nd chance, I think he said it cause he was giving Alpert a 2nd chance then to join him. He had tried to get him on his side before back in the day, but Richard chose the side of Jacob.
username,
Last nights episode had me laughing a few times, when Richard falls out of that little trap all helpless.
But it was hilarious when he stumbles out of the woods trying to convince Sawyer to come to the temple, then runs off when Locke come back, hes shitting himself.
I also enjoyed the show shephards_flocke. Nice new take on Richard’s character.
