I actually saw this proposed in another theory, and the thing is it actually did not seem to make sense to me at first but then I thought about it and could see how it could be the case.
Then if you look at “Jacob” which can be spelled several ways, abbreviated it is Jac which is “Jack” for all pretense and purposes.
Moreover as I said there are alternate spellings include jak.
Jacob comes from Hebrew origins meaning God is gracious.
Jack used to be a nickname for those named John before it became common place for it to be a name of it’s own. In John 4:12 it says “Are you greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?”
now I know this may be reaching but it could also tie together. There is mention of a well, and the well plays an important role in lost. Jacob is clearly of great importance something of a leader and a father figure. And the whole jack, John, Jacob thing is plausible if not a stretch.

So… I guess sure I can see Jacob being Jack.
Jacob is not Jack.
The producers have said that we have already seen Jacob in a non speaking role. Jack clearly speaks.
