A fun theory with biblical connections
Im going to have a little ‘fun’ here, and if you know what Im getting at with this…let me have my ‘fun’ give others a little Lost moment away from their TV…then I will reveal.
These are a few lines from something that I feel relates to whats happening, and could hint at whats to come on Lost. Remember, if you know, dont tell……. ;]
1-aggravation
2-some sacred questions
3-you stroke my locks
4-sleeping on your belly
5-you break my arms
6-you spoon my eyes
7-been rubbing a bad charm
8-with holy fingers
9-chained to the pillars
10-a 3-day party
11-i break the walls
12-and kill us all
13-with holy fingers
———————————————————————————————-
Ok, Lets try to relate these lines with our Lost storyline and see what we come up with…
1-If John isnt aggrevated, between everything that has happened in his miserable life, then maybe it is because of all the problems he has had on island with his own faith, being decieved by Ben, trying to convince people his belief in the island, then maybe its due to all the trouble and sacrifice he must endure to get people to return to the island.
2-Im sure Mr Locke has had questions for not only Ben, Richard, and Jacob/Christian, but for the Oceanic6. Maybe on why they think they should go back. Maybe questions on how to convince them to himself, Jacob, or God. Or maybe just question in general whether this is the right thing.
3-No, Im not stroking Locke! It could be that someone (Locke) is trying to find the key to something, answers maybe. Trying to figure out the ‘combination’ to the secret in Lost.
4-Who sleeps on theyre belly that we know…hmm, a snake maybe, but there are no snakes in Lost. Hell, the only thing close to a snake is…Benjamin Linus
5-Maybe not breaking arms, but at least renering someone helpless. Maybe paralyzed or dead even
6-Maybe shield or cover someones eyes. Maybe blinding them with lies in order to use them (Locke) for something important to you (Ben)
7-The bad charm that is the representation of ones (Locke’s) faith. A crucifix, star of David, something to that nature…(Blind, to a bad representation)
8-Holy Fingers? Touch of god or a person high in faith, becoming involved (who?hmm, perspective. Ben or John?)
9-Didnt Locke kill himself? Didnt he hang himself. Hmm, probably not from actual pillars, but most likely strong enough to support John and a structure of some sort..getting close..
10-I dont think this will actually play out, unless John spent 3 days trying to convince the O6 to return, or it takes 3 days maybe for him to be resurected
11-Break the plane so it goes down?…no way, to easy and stupid. Break the walls of time maybe? Ben..Locke? The point would be to save us all….right….?
12-Kill us all? Maybe Ben trying to Kill everyone to save himself..nope.
Maybe Locke/Ben knowing that they will all have to die on island to save the island? maybe?
Kill us all refering to the plane crashing again…? Yeah, Ill go with that ;]
13-Holy fingers again, a reference to the opposite of who we decided the first time, Ben or Locke?
Or just making sure we understand the signifigance of the person spoke of originally?
Most likely John (or even Jack). I dont think, regardless of his motive, anything about Ben is
Holy.
———————————————————————————————-
This is what they actually refer to…Zod, from a non Lost site summed it up perfectly…
“refers to the biblical story of Samson, who had his eyes gouged out by his enemies, and eventually killed them all when he was chained to two pillars in their stronghold: he pulled the pillars down, bringing the building down and killing himself and his enemies.
The secret of his strength was his hair: as long as it remained uncut he was stronger
than ay other man. He was betrayed by Delilah the woman he loved, who shaved his head and handed him over to his enemies, but when his hair grew back he pulled the house down on them as described above. This explains the “aggravation” (Delilah, who got the secret of his hair out of him by annoying him) and the reference to stroking his locks (of hair)”
Samson was a biblical character with god like power, super strenghth really, who was fooled by a woman named Delilah into believing she loved him so she could manipulate him into telling her the root of his power so she could use it against him, and help his enemies.
He after several times of being tricked and manipulated (much like Locke and Ben) STILL allowed it to happen by giving her the truth of his power and her shaving his head. (maybe like Lockes power was the island and when he left, Ben had his chance to gain true control over him)
Even after Christian Shepard asks Locke after being told he listened to Ben about moving the island..”where has Listening to him (Benjamin Linus) ever got you?”
LOCKE still listens to what Ben tells him off island. We know Ben went to see him, we know Locke kills himself, and we saw a scene from next week.
There is more to my whole charade here, lets see if you can connect the dots.
Hopefully this isnt viewed as stupid, it was in fun, but Im curious for thoughts.

AES, a very good puzzle!
The fact Christian asks Locke, “Where did listening to him (Ben) ever get you”, is a major clue.
I see Ben as the ‘snake’ or the ‘Delilah’ in this story. He has been systematically trying to avert John Locke away from discovering his own true power and connection with ‘the island’.
I am not sure what Ben is up to, but I know he knows exactly what he’s doing and why. I am sure that his motives for using John and misdirecting him are twofold.
I only hope that whatever this two-fold routine he is pulling on Locke, backfires with John using this to HIS advantage! And, finally outwitting Ben.
BTW, Ben IMO is anything but divine. Ben can serve on the side of ultimate good, while still manipulating events to proper advantage.
AHH, dabsi, I was waiting for someone to comment on this, should have known it would be you :]
AES, How could I have NOT commented on this!!
I must say I am intrigued to know more of your thoughts!
Well Dabs…I have more thoughts on this for sure. I think there are some things used in Lost for fun and some things used to give subtle hints of whats to come. I was really hoping I could sell this by not giving away the whole punchline first, but it doesnt seem anyone else is even window shopping, let alone buying it.
It seems like some of the books and stories are put out for people to go nuts over and try to crack a code. Then there are these tiny miniscule second long gifts that to me at least, speak more.
Anyone can see Sawyer reading a famous book and say “Hey! Lost is going to swing that way now!” Only to be tricked again and again. (Ive done it myself plenty)
Then there are the allusions that run from the beginning of the show on, and I think either I read too much into things or this was placed perfectly. I know it was touched on on other sites, and I dont think it has been here yet..Man, I was REALLY hoping to pull a few more folks to get their thoughts before I gave this away.
btw..you did a great job of reading my mindon this one, seriously.
Know what I am leading to?
lol AES, I hate when I read minds! But, I do like reading yours.
I am finding using a different approach to how I watch Lost, and interpret the meaning, has been helpful in understanding it a bit better.
I am looking more at the subtleties in the story telling.
I’d love to say I know exactly where you are going with this, but I honestly don’t.
It is a ‘thinking’ man’s (woman’s) theory, and hope some more people get on board and read it, before you give it away!
Take your time in revealing it!
Im sure you know by now Im impatient, and the bad part is, if people read the part I have so far and dont buy it…It is soooo rediculous. But if I can just get people to believe it for a minute, I think it will be a good reveal.
Guess this is how Locke feels sometimes ;]
Damn, this is good too. Either people are reading it and not buying in, or they know where Im going and are bored. I thought this would be popular. May repost in theories now that you…well…theorized on my game ;]
No, you impatient? Who knew? lol
I know where you are going with Locke, btw.
I would re-post in theories and take out the ‘fun’ part in the heading. It might be throwing people.
…twist my arm…
Consider it twisted!
Of course…It posts based on date so it doesnt even make the top of the list..oh well, people got about an hour, then Im dropping the bomb…no not that bomb :]
lol, glad it’s not that bomb!
That sucks, you can’t get it to post, more recent. I wondered why this was in fun. It is a theory, but one which makes you think!
I am pretty clear on what Locke is going to do, I think. Look-out!
AES, move it back to the Fun section, as it doesn’t show on the main page, anymore!
good idea dabsi
Sometimes dissecting Lost means dissecting something else. When people discuss the biblical names, they must not only decide how they relate to the character, but the actual story of the biblical figure as well. This goes with all theories on lost.
But sometimes there is an extra step for more hardcore fans. With this, you have to dissect, then again…then yet again to even make sense of it. Im pretty sure this will prove important and not just some coincidental addative.
Hell, I didnt want anyone to figure it out at first, but now Im just looking for some backup on this one any takers, last chance?
You are so right about that! Understanding one, helps with understanding the other.
I have always firmly believed, that when it comes to Lost, there is a light vs dark effect, in terms of good and evil.
This clue, is, in my opinion, going on in Lost right now. I actually thought about it last season, when what I am referring to took place. Only I think I underthought my idea. I assumed just because a certain character was in the scene, that he had to be involved. I forget Lost’s deceptive abilities.
I got the idea right, although, I at the time was not the only one who made the find. I just tried to dig a little deeper on it. I still didnt have enough pieces for a decent theory, but again, this season is at least allowing me to get some logical ideas.
The way the show plays out, the timeline that has no boundries. How are we to know what happens first and second any more, they are slowly, but surely taking sequence out of Lost. Its simply amazing. But enough of them fooling me.
What happened this year, this season so far. What we all think (know) is going to happen. Will Locke be fooled again, or is he playing the game at this point. We seemed to see him start to walk the path of his destiny. Yeah, Lockes destiny is sort of tainted by timetravel, or is it all part of the divine plan Locke believes in. Further, it seems Locke can do just about anything he wants, he just needs to stop getting suckered. Maybe he did. Maybe he is manipulating the manipulater at this point. Maybe he realized his destiny is to go back to the island, and maybe hes allowing Ben to use him at this point to return. Im sure Ben has something else up his sleeve, but I think this is telling us is willing to sacrifice himself for the island, or maybe the people. Maybe thats what he didnt understand before.
AES, I think you have it right! Especially, after Christian’s words to Locke before he left ‘the island’. Great take and great analogy and logic!
As far as I’m concerned,Locke is doing ‘the old Kansas City shuffle’. I just feel he is going to outsmart Ben, in the end.
I have no idea what Locke has up his sleeve, or how it will all play out. Like you say, with everything playing out of sequence, the writers could introduce a lot of different scenarios.
Once back on ‘the island’, Locke may just prove to be the ‘undoing’ of Ben, and become the ‘leader’ he always wanted to be. Even, if his leadership is limited by the time elements.
Will Jack learn from Locke? Will Jack eventually step up to the plate as leader?
Or, is that role destined to be someone else?
Either way, it plays out, I will be happy if Locke gets some well deserved glory. And, to see Ben get outsmarted by Locke, would be the ultimate coup de tat!
Thanks for sharing this. I hope everyone gives it a read!
Ahh, one more thing though. What made me post this to begin with. Well, something happened kind of around the beginning of the end. Bentham “commited suicide”. Jack went to the funeral home. Smack in the middle of what we are seeing unfold on these last few episodes, and whats to come in the next. “The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham”…chills.
This took place at the beginning of it all, but smack in the middle of the previous and next episode in reverse order…

So funny you just said this, because I just responded to the theory about the episodes being shown in reverse order.
Perhaps, the writers pulled the old switcheroo on us.
I will be anxious to see the next episode. i will be looking for any reason that it couldn’t have played out in another sequence.
So far, it looks like it’s all covered, so maybe the writers know exactly what they’re doing.
ha, read the comment on the reverse order post right before yours..lol
AES, you must tell me if these are lyrics, poetry, etc.
They are the lyrics to the song “Gauge Away” by the Pixies…
The same song playing on Jacks radio when he pulls into the funeral home lot to go see Benthams body. The same place Ben comes to see him…
I just re-read your comment in that post, and should have known you were going somewhere with it! lol
I thought they sounded like lyrics, but didn’t know from what song, or who sung them.
The beginning of the end in perspective to what we saw. But right in the middle of everything.
Okay, that makes sense to me. I thought it was the song playing when Jack goes to the funeral home the second time!
You pay very close attention to detail! Right in the middle! So, what’s next, then?
So, maybe one of the clues to the viewers is the fact, that the situation has reversed!
I will have to ponder my thoughts on this one!
As usual, my mind is racing!
Im really thinking it is in retrospect to either Locke sacrificeing himself to “kill them all” by being there as a “proxy” to help the plane crash…but Im hoping thats too easy.
I hope, that it means he is allowing ben to remove his power, by taking him off island.
Tie him up by..”helping him die”. And once they return to the island, show Ben that he is truly the one in control.
Funny I talk about reverse order, and you kind of said my theory on this before I even got to the reference.
I would like to truly see Locke fullfill his destiny. He himself is so biblical in storyline. Not that they all dont have their misfortunes pre island.
But the amount of suffering and pain that was inflicted on him by friends and family, if you even call any of them that. And the one chance he had at love, he threw away trying to reconcile with his father, who stole an organ and attempted to kill him.
Set up or not, Ben hit the nail on the head when he apolgized to John for his miserable life he had given him.
One thing people dont realize, much like John is just starting to realize, is that he has had pull on the island longer than Ben, as far as we know right now.
The more Johns life catches up with him, the more pain he will realize and it seems with every downfall John has, he learns from it. Wisely I might add. Except with Ben. Over and over he falls for his ruse.
I hope and feel now, that Johns recent enlightening discoveries and revolations about himself drive him to the destiny he desires, whether prewritten fate or due to timetravel. I think Mr. Locke is about to come out of his shell.
I’m back with one other thought!
We have seen the life and death of John Locke.
Now, we will be seeing the life and death of Jeremy Bentham.
The episode after the life and death of Jeremy Bentham is called LaFleur. French, for flower.
A flower indicating, the blossoming of life!
Hmm, I smell a revisited birth of Alex?
As for LeFleur, I was thinking along the lines of flowers blossom, then die, and re-bloom again! Like re-incarnation!
I couldn’t agree more about John Locke. If anybody had a hard life, he certainly did!
Maybe all of Ben’s patronizing statements, and Christian’s parting words were enough to alter Locke’s line of thinking.
Locke also may learn other valuable information that will turn the tide.
I would think out of any character on Lost, Locke would be the most willing to sacrifice himself. Especially, if that sacrifice stood for all that is good.
Perhaps, he has now discovered the right cause. A cause so worthy, that he is prepared to use Ben’s manipulative tricks on Ben himself, while achieving the ultimate good.
I would love to see Ben get stood on his ear, and who better than John Locke deserves that victory!
I absolutely can’t wait for the next episode now! I was already totally psyched about it, but now, I can barely contain myself. lol
You always put more than a 100% into your theories. And, they are so revealing, thought provoking and relevant.
Thanks for the nice words Dabs, always there to keep me sane
They are only words, but the sentiment is real.
I guess when you have the same thought process, it’s easy to follow your line of thinking.
Not to say, that sometimes, you absolutely amaze me! lol
speaking of reincarnation, the van that Ben is driving off the island says “Canton Rainier” which is an anagram for reincarnation.
