Helen Norwood
Remember Locke’s girlfriend, Helen? Anybody else think there might be more to Helen than we’ve seen so far? I think there might be.
First, when she first met John at the anger management she commented that she likes bald men but she was prepared to wait… I know it could have been just an assumption that he would bald as he got older or maybe a comment about him starting to bald but John’s bald head is kind of a defining feature for him.
Second, it was recently revealed that she died of a brain aneurysm. That could be coincidental but really, what on Lost is coincidental? This is the same way Minkowski died. It’s the same way Eloise the Rat died. Is it possible that she died as a result of displacement in time? I think it is. And if that’s true then she might have a larger role to play in the show. Who knows, right? I get the feeling though that they brought her back up to point out how she died.
Also, having Katey Segal on the show could also be a clue that Futurama time travel is in play in Lost meaning that Jack really could be his own grandfather….
Thoughts?

i love that futurama episode but i doubt there will be an own grandpa situation, its ok for comedic purposes, but trying to portray the complex emotions upon realizing you are your own progenitor would be ludicrous. man i love using big words.
Yeah, I was just kidding… It was funny when Fry did it… if Jack did it I think it would be more gross than funny…
highbrow, I would have to agree with you, that there was a reason for bringing up the manner in which Helen died.
It may have only been for the purpose, of John Locke, knowing he had nothing left on the outside world. However, the fact it was a brain aneurysm may have some significance.
I thought it was established in the episode where John Locke sees the light streaming from the Swan station, that he acknowledges he can’t come into contact with himself in the past. Seeing the video of the two bunnies in the Orchid Station, made him aware of this.
I would say, chances are, we will see no paradoxes of this nature on Lost.
One clue, is the fact that while everyone else is in the 70’s, Ben was transported to a different time frame.
One way of keeping him from interfering with his past self, and creating any paradox.
In addition, this is one of the unpredictable side effects, of which Ms. Hawking refers to.
One other thought about Helen. I wonder if we are supposed to take away, the idea that maybe Helen was on ‘the island’ at some point.
Well, I must say, this is a great thought. I have not rewatched the episode yet, but you reminded me of a thought I had the first time.
I actually dont think she is dead. I think she didnt die, and it was Ben who again..lied. I think that if John was to learn Helens wherabouts, she could have persuaded him to NOT go back, and leave his “destiny” to stay and be with her, leaving Ben and the O6 out to dry.
Your comments regarding the brain anyurism is a great perspective. She has to be either alive, or tied to the island, otherwise it would be pointless that John would even ask about her.
Heres what scares me about the whole thing. It seems to me, that with a few exceptions/drawbacks upon arrival on the island, John has never, that we’ve seen, doubted his destiny. His thoughts on Helen lead me to ask, “Why did he want to know?”. Was he planning on dropping in and saying “Hello”? “Sorry I havent seen you in a while, been chasing my destiny on a magic island.”. Was he going to go all Ben and lie, or tell her the truth? What could John have really gotten from seeing her, other than trying to take her with him, or stay with her. Closure for characters plays a big part of their storyline on Lost, (ie: Jack and Sarah, which btw, I still find something off about the whole thing) but it doesnt make sense. Unless Ben lied about her death or she is/was on island, depending on how you look at it. Great, great, great conversation starter. I hope this isnt forgotten about here, something new and tasty to chew on.
Hmm, not to go the Jacob route, but I always wonder about aliases/other names/middle names of people on the show. Every new girl I meet on Lost, I just wait to find out she is Annie, buggs the hell out of me. I still think its Kate somehow…I know highbrow, I know..
A.E.S.–I agree. I was thinking that maybe Helen isn’t dead. They’ve lied about crazier things on Lost.
Yeah, also a possibility… either way though I think she’s been officially implicated in things though…
Again, great job reading between the lines. This is going to bug me.
Hi there! I agree with you about nothing being random or extraneous on Lost–the whole thing with Helen dying of a brain aneuryism, the way that Charlotte and Minkowski died is not a coincidence–very good thinking. BUT didn’t Abbadon tell Locke that she died? And take him to her grave? I didn’t think Ben had anything to do with it.
I have a theory that no one is ever REALLY dead on Lost! I keep waiting for all of them to resurface, like the island isn’t a place of death at all, but a fountain of eternal life. I also keep thinking that the Christian/Jack/Aaron bloodline is the true leader of the island, and the most connected to Jacob in some way. For all the work that Locke does, he always seems to get duped in some way, and maybe is merely a pawn for the greater powers that be.
