But why 3 yrs? Come on. Numbers, like every other minute detail, matters. [And the 70s thing is clearly leading to the purge]
BTW: I think Christian is a wheel spinner, too, and had to die and be brought back, just like Locke … so did he go in the future?
(I also think Widmore is a spinner, but doesn’t know about the dying part ‘cuz he heard it from Ben who clearly doesn’t know about it. I think Ben tricked Charles, perhaps w/saving Penny from the purge, and that’s why Charles thinks he can’t go back (like Ben said before spinning the wheel and probably only knew you cold from Locke so he just rode on Locke’s death back to the island.)
Ben is a “spinner” and he didn’t have to die to go back…
I think it’s three years because that’s long enough to be considered a “long time” in order for certain things to happen like Sawyer getting over Kate and shacking up with Juliet. It’s also not so long that anyone has seemed to really age.
If there’s real significance to it being three years then I’m at a loss… I have no idea what it might be.
When Locke turned the wheel it left Sawyer in co. in 1974. They decide to stay on the island until Locke comes back with Kate, Jack etc.
Only, they end up spending 3 years with Dharma until the O6 return. The O6 returns in 1977.
Off island, the O6 left the island in late 2004, and they go back to the island in late 2007/early 2008. So that makes 3 years.
I think they’ve made it like that so that everyone who has been separated have been separated for 3 years.
The only 2 people who haven’t experienced the full 3 years are Ben and Locke who both ended up in the future when they turned the wheel.

My only thoughts of it being significant (3 years, is the repetitiveness, and Horace’s “is 3 years really long enough to get over someone?”
highbrow – Ben didn’t have to die to ge back because he travelled to the present time when he sun the wheel, whereas Locke ends up in the future.
ezmi – Ben did spend 3 years off the island. Think back to him hiring Sayid to kill Widmore associates etc.
Oh, those pesky numbers! The number three seems to be repeating at present. not sure why though. Nice catch!
Ben travelled ten months into the future when he turned the wheel.
Like highbrow said Ben ended up in October 2005 so he hasn’t experienced 3 years like everyone else.
The O6 were would have been gone 6 yrs … they were away 3 and THEN the skips stopped and Sawyer was w/Dharma 3 yrs. before seeing Jack & Kate?
But, they saw Jin right away.
Very confusing, since the skipping stopped when John turned the wheel.
Could that have been ‘instantaneous’ w/the O6 in a 3 yr. gap? [between John turning wheel/stopping skips and O6 climbing on the shore]
Any ideas here, either?
This is 4 the record. I posted in Fun column something similar hinting that the 316ers were in 2004′.
Penny was looking for Desmond for 3 yrs. (well she was looking for ‘it’).
Guess how long Eko hadn’t seen his brother, Yemi?
