Why did Miles, etc. skip while some didn’t?
Did everyone on the island at the time skip through time? If so, did they go to the same new time but at the location they were (so the island was a closed system)? If not, why did the researchers go w/the non O6 stars? Why did Jin go in time when he wasn’t on the island at the time, since the helecopter didn’t? What happened to the others in the temple?

I’m thinking The Others didn’t time travel with the Losties because they’re a part of the island?
I’m not really sure how to explain it so it makes sense.
Jin was in proximity to the island at the time it started time jumping, whereas the helicopter wasn’t.
All about closeness to the island, and wherever you are place-wise, is where you end up place-wise in the new time. So no matter WHEN Jin was, he would still be in the water, WHERE he was. Same goes for the others, although I did not understand the rest of your question.
The Others didn’t travel with the O6 because they are not time traveling. Simple as that.
Cap – I don’t think it’s as simple as that. Why DIDN’T the Others jump when everyone else on the Island did? That’s a big question!
Juliette is an Other- albiet a MARKED Other, and she jumped. Could being an Other mean that you CAN’T jump through time with the Island, but you CAN otherwise?
Maybe the Others DID skip and are living duelly on the island? Maybe you can’t skip and be on the island at the same time (except maybe Claire and the assumption John did when he saw the light from the hatch)?
Miles/Charlotte – do we know they were still on the island in ’74?
There’s something special about the Others maybe. Maybe their dead. Juliet was recruited recently so maybe she’s not. Who the heck knows? I’m sure we’ll find out sometime over the next year or so…
