Okay, this question was more relevant after the ‘LaFleur’ episode, but is bugging me.

maybe thats how it looked in “1000 bc”…when locke fell down the well and the time changed…the well was gone and there was no way up or anything it was just dirt
Sorry, I don’t mean the area around the wheel looks different. I mean the wheel it self. It’s as if we are seeing the Donkey Wheel right after Ben turned it, but if it is 1000 BC, Ben would not have turned the wheel for another 3004 years. So it is like we are seeing it in the 2004 state, when we should see what it looked liked in the year 1000 BC.
Okay I get it now. The wheel itself was off its axis and flashing. Wheras in ancient times it should have been well on its axis. Thats a good question and I don’t think it will be answered. One of those holes that always seems to be in any work of fiction that involves time travel.
ya thats what i was about to say…maybe the wheel flashes through time with everything..bc if its what sends your through time…wouldnt it have to stay the same?
Let me see if I get the chronology of events right…
2004 – Ben slips the wheel off its axis and starts the flashing.
First six episodes of season 5 with the island skipping. Locke and co. head for the Orchid.
???? – Locke goes down into the well.
2007 – The well is now filled in and Sawyer is left holding the rope. Is Locke buried in tons of earth and rock? No.
Locke is at the bottom of the well. Is he in the same time frame as Sawyer and co.?
Or is his proximity to the Donkey Wheel neutralizing the effect on him? Once he turns the donkey wheel and flashes off the island he is no longer in 1000 BC (if he ever was) but in 2007 Tunisia.
Another flash to Sawyer and co. They are pulled back to 1000 BC or whatever and see the statue. I see no firm indication that Locke has followed them there.
One final flash described as ‘different’ from the rest brings Sawyer et.al. to rest in 1974.
Isn’t the flash where Locke fell down the hole, the one that gets them to 1000 BC? You make it sound like there was a flash in between Locke falling and when the Jin saw the statue. I am pretty sure that isn’t the case, as we see Sawyer holding the rope and then 5 seconds later, without any time skip, Jin points to the statue. The next time they flash they are in 1974. I don’t think it’s possible they could have ever been in the year 2007 while by the well.

I was wondering what made you think it would look any different?

Is this making any sense?

Maybe the wheel and the mechanism… maybe the entire chamber is skipping through time too…
