Jacob and Ben
While watching “He’s our you” last night. I noticed something about Ben. I may be looking too far into this. Let’s see what you folks think though.
When Ben’s dad came into the Cell and Ben was there. Little Ben was absolutely afraid. We saw some fear from him back in his flashback ep in regards to his father. nothing this extreme though. Last night he was 100% scared !@#$less! Which made me think. Has Ben ever really been afraid? I can think of only one time besdies last night. Which is when he took Locke to see Jacob. He was very afraid then as well. I guess when he turned the wheel and when his daughter died he also showed emotion…
I think that was more sadness though.
So my point being. His Dad and Jacob are the two things that we have seen get a rise out of the stone faced Ben.
This led me to a new train of thought. Does this mean a connection? Ben’s Father and Jacob?
Perhaps Jacob is not a person at all. Maybe the name is in place to mislead us.
Perhaps jacob is the island. Plain and simple. There is no person behind it at all. The island (Jacob) manifests many things unique to the indivdual. There must be some sort of intelliegence behind it I believe. Who says it has to be human. I can think of a few things.
AI?
Sentience from the exotic matter?
Memories and Imprints of those the island has come in contact with?
Maybe Jacob is more of a mirror of the individual. Something that shows you yourself.

The writers have said that Jacob has been seen on the show, but not in a speaking role.

I don’t think you are too far out on a limb. I’m sure Dabs will jump in as this is something that she has been bringing up for all this Jacob talk, too.
To me, the conversation as Ben was taking Locke to see Anthony Cooper and bringing up the “box” took the powers of the island and possibly Jacob to a different level.

What if I told you that, somewhere on this island, there is a very large box and whatever you imagined, whatever you wanted to be in it when you opened that box, there it would be? Really. That doesn’t need to be in the theory anyways. I can remove it and the thoery still stands.
i thought that you were going to go with the jacob is bens father route when i started reading your theory… but…i think ben is afraid of people with more power than him…more specifically power than can easily and quickly use against them. no lostie or even richard really ever posed a threat to him (nor widmore for that matter), but both his father and jacob have direct authority over him.

I mentioned this on a lafleur post although my reasoning was much more speculative. Jacob , in biblical terms was the father of benjamin whose mother died giving birth. I would not be surprised if this was the case however it does contradi t the writers comments regarding who Jacob is.
the statement about a character in a non-speaking role was sometime during season 2, I believe. We have also discussed that in other theories. Was it season 2 or 3 when we saw his dad for the first time?
