  1. This is a quality post. I really like how well you laid out your ideas. I’m a little confused about the first and second ripple part but the parts about desmond making ripples makes a lot of sense.

  2. ali this subject came to head today with some top theorist around here. So I do not know how much action you will get. But I like your description of the ripples and how Des plays in. Your rules make sense and are simple enough for everyone to understand which I think is crucial to the show and it’s appeal to the broader audience.

Can you tell me one thing though? What the H is Course Correction. It seems like that term is thrown around like it’s just accepted. I just dont get it. Is there A Father Time figure that stands around with a Bull horn screaming across the Universe, Hey kill that guy and that gal and move that cooler over 3 inches. Or is it just nature. Because if it just nature or (for a lack of a better phrase) a given. Then maybe some people have a little Faith and did not no it

  3. The way that I have interpreted “Course Correction” in this show is that you can view everything that’s going on as if it were happening in 1977. Basically, it’s like EVERYTHING on the show has already happened, (whether it’s 1974, 1977, 1988, 2004, or 2008). Now there are some people who can change what “has happened,” i.e. Desmond, if only for a little while. Then, there are those who are slaves to fate, (pretty much everyone else we know as of right now). The problem is, since this has “already happened” how can someone change it? This is where you can think of fate as a “Father Time figure.” Although I like to think of fate (in regards to the show) as the island keeping things how they should be so that the universe doesn’t implode on itself.

    Course corrections we’ve seen:
    1. Desmond tries to save Charlie from dieing. Fate (the island) keeps putting Charlie in positions where he is likely to die, unless someone like Desmond does something about it.
    2. Desmond tries to marry Penny to change the outcome of his life. Fate (Ms. Hawking) smacks him in the face and tells him that he “doesn’t buy the ring Desmond.” Desmond gets to thinking and realizes that it’s more important to have a universe than a wife.
    3. Michael tries to kill himself. However, Michael can’t kill himself because he didn’t kill himself, therefore the island doesn’t let him die in the crash, causes the gun to misfire, etc.

I’m sure there were more that I’m missing but I just woke up and am still a little tired. If this post doesn’t make sense then attribute it to that haha.

I believe that we are going to see some more course correcting coming up. I believe that Widmore’s war that’s coming is either the purge or the incident and that he wants the outcome to be different so that he never leaves the island. Just a theory though. Not a lot of evidence to support it other than Widmore says there’s a war coming and the people on the island are in 1977, and the finale is called the incident…

  4. This is a good, well thought-out theory. nice job.

I think your explanation of ‘first string players’ etc explains why they’re on the island in the first place. Either they’re on the island because they are the only hope to change something or they’re isolated there to prevent something from happening off the island.

I still believe the show will focus on ‘change.’ But, no two people on this site agree, so it could go either way.
    Great job.

  5. I would like for them to focus on change, since if they can’t change anything…what’s the point of us seeing this stuff?…other than to answer some questions posed by previous seasons.
