The It Hoth in the title is interesting, as Thoth is the Scribal Egyptian God. He is also a part of the death rituals and can be seen in The Book of the Dead, writing down people’s testimonies regarding their worthiness to enter the underworld. He is depicted in that manifestation as an Ibis, and in other cases as a Baboon.
I saw on the blackboard in the classroom, that they were teaching about ‘Old’ and ‘Middle Egyptian.’ These are terms we would use ONLY when refering to styles of language and grammar in Egyptian language.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see what was written on the left, other than the determinative sign for ‘God.’ (In Middle Egyptian, if anyone is interested.
I didn’t even notice the Egyptian teachings on the board. You can miss so much sometimes.
I managed two good screenshots where you can read most of whats on the board. In one you can even make out of some the erased text on the far right.

For the time being, the English on the far left reads “Writing of the words of god”, and “Archaic Egyptian Before 2600 B.C.” There are symbols above, between, and below those two English phrases. Completely at loss of the meanings of the Egyptian symbols.
On the right, the erased side, it says “phonetic meaning” and “context”.

You have to take your hat off to a society that has Anciant Egyptian on its curriculum for school children (unless they have adult night classes).
Ironically they will get wiped out by another society that teaches ancient conversational Latin to its children!

It could just have to do with the fact that Hurley was writing Empire, and there’s a planet called hoth in it. but I actually didn’t notice the Egyptian things on the chalkboard until i watched the episode again, good eye.
that sounds pretty good. at first i thought the big egyptian statue on the island was anubis, god of the underworld (or maybe god of the dead?) but now i think i totally agree with you. great ideas!!
