The Statue – Tawaret (This is the theory of doninhu)

doninhu – a new member of the site, personally I think a great addition because as far as I am concerned he was the first one to mention the statue being Tawaret.

doninhu made a comment on one of my posts and I did a little research on it, he has an amazing theory! These are his words!

“I am new to this blog, so here it goes:

I read some other ideas and someone brought up the idea that the statue isn’t that of Anubis but of Taweret. I think they could be right. If you look closely it resembles Tawaret a lot from behind. There are distinct differences by what the statue is holding, the hat it is wearing, and the ears. If you do some background checking it shows that Taweret is the Egyption goddess: deity of protection in pregnancy and childbirth. She was the demon wife to Apep, the original god of evil. Taweret was seen as one who protected against evil by restraining it.

This logic somewhat makes sense because for all we know, when the statue was whole everyone was able to give childbirth. When we only saw the foot, no woman was able to bear children. Not until the oceanic flight crash landed. Was this some sort of curse upon the ‘others’? Did they destroy the statue? We never found out what happened to all the pregnant mothers and unborn children, nor di we find out what happened to the stolen oceanic children. Could it be a grave? Could it be the home of the smoke monster?

More questions than answers. Sorry. Just some ideas to keep the wheels in the brain turning.

*Thanks to wikipedia: the lazy man’s encyclopedia. LOL*”

Thanks doninhu for bringing Tawaret to my attention!

  1. Yeah, I’m still going with Thoth. Not that I have any more evidence to support that one over any other… And Tawaret theory has been around for a while at least on Lostpedia…

  2. Joshcgs, this was mentioned early on after the episode featuring the statue was aired.

Tawaret was one of the favourites mentioned. Considering the entire ‘Egyptian’ connection, I would not rule her out, but I think there are other references that tie in with the other mythology that might explain the statue as well.

I can’t wait to see who it turns out to be! This will be a huge reveal into the whole ‘island’ mythology theme.

  3. Actually, you’ll find it was me, not doninhu – about the same time as the translations – there was a bit of a discussion about it. But kudos on the awesome picture. I decided it wasn’t Tawaret, due to the man’s kilt, but the male version, Min, is an unlikely contender, so you never know…

  4. Sadly, Thoth doesn’t have ears, unless he’s in baboon form, but then he is physically a baboon, not a man with a baboon head. I wish I could believe it was Tarawet, but I agree with Henrygale108.

  5. The head, ears, crown all look like Taweret, but but body does not look like a pregnant female. The body looks like a male. The side view we barely get a glimpse of the statue itself the way the head and mouth look, but the piece of the tapestry Ilana found tacked to the wall of “Jacob’s Cabin” with a knife, gives a better side view of the statue and it doesn’t show a distended, pregnant female stomach and bosom. I don’t think it’s Sobek, either, because the snout part of the face doesn’t look as tapered and slender as that of Sobek’s Crocodile features.
