Miles speaks w/the dead but never seemed to hear. You’d think he’d hear them everywhere (2004). Any ideas why? And, does anyone hear them in ’77?

that is a very good point, the last time we heard the whispers was with sun and frank at dharmaville…. perhaps whatever causes the whispers hasnt happend yet? however, does it seem interesting that miles was born on the island can here the dead??? xxx
I found it really interesting in that episode where we saw Ben taking Alex from Danielle how he said “if you want to live you won’t come looking for us and if you hear whispers you’ll run as fast as you can.”
I feel like that was a clue but I can’t think quite how it fits. I guess it just means that the whispering somehow represents the presence of the Others, which is what we already knew from the whole Tailies plot, but I don’t get it…what ARE the whispers? It seems really stupid to me to imagine a bunch of the others standing around in a circle going “pshshspppshshshpss” you know? And why did we hear it those times with Walt? He wasn’t actually an Other. ??
I think it has something to do with the Others utilizing time travel. You hear whispers and Harper appears out of nowhere. i think they have the ability to get to an exact point in time and the whispers is part of their arrival/departure.
Perhaps this is what the purge and the incident stem from – Dharma trying to tap the Others’ or the island’s ability to travel through time. The others get pissed that the Dharma folk are messing with sacred ground, and a power only ascribed to them. Perhaps also this is why the incident occurs – Jacob was no longer tolerant of the others since they had crossed a line. Maybe I should turn this into a theory … 🙂
That’s really interesting, I did contemplate for a while whether certain people (namely Richard) could travel through time on their own because he never seems to age and I’m not ready to accept that he’s just immortal or some sort of egyptian sun god just yet.
But still, it seems like such a random thing…whispers? Why whispers?
Interesting idea, you should turn it into a theory. I do think the purge happened because the Dharma folk were getting in a little to deep. I have an inkling though that the incident was something related to our little 70’s impersonators though. I don’t know why, I just have an inkling.
