Thera Disappeared
With JJ Abrams’ fascination with sci-fi, history combined with magic I’m convinced that the foundation and formulation of Lost and the island comes from Greek History and equally mythology. The island of Thera was obliterated and “disappeared” along with many of the Minoan civilization around 1627 BCE. I think JJ and the writers of the show took this destruction as a disappearance along with the Minoan people, their beliefs, and even more so the power of the Gods and a poem Theogony.
definitely a possibility, i think rumor has it that the island represents a lot of potential islands from historical myths
I do as well, I think it is quite possible it was called by many names to those who stumbled upon it.

I put up a big huge theory awhile back about Atlantis… I’ll look it up and post the link. Thera is one of the many islands which scholars believe could be the basis for the Atlantis legends.
