What exactly is the temple?

I am new here, and this is my first post.

I think what the temple is is a Temple of Time. It could also be a Temple of Health, but I do not see it.

My reason behind this is a few, first, I think the Temple exists in any time. This is because of the EXCLUSIVE post, posted earlier. (I do not want to say why, because I consider it would be a ‘type’ of spoiler if some people choose not to read the EXCLUSIVE post. If you want to know my reason, you should be able to figure it out by reading the EXCLUSIVE post)

Another reason is because Ben says he got healed there when he was young, and he still remember’s being healed even though it was said/thought he wouldnt remember.

And my last reason is because it is the home of the Smoke Monster. As we saw in the episode about Ben being judged by the Smoke Monster, it was showed the Smoke Monster is made up of memories, which can be linked to time.

  1. I don’t know what the EXCLUSIVE post is…

I remember this being discussed before though… maybe that was the EXCULSIVE post. The problem I have with the temple existing in all times is this. If John Locke walked into the temple on Wednesday then again on Thursday, would he then see himself walking in on Wednesday? There would be a copy of every person who ever walked into the temple for every time they ever walked into the temple.

As for Ben remembering after Richard said he would forget… what did he really remember? That he was shot? He had a bullet hole in his chest! He may have simply deduced that. Did he remember that he was brought to the temple? He woke up in the temple so he could have easily deduced that as well.

  2. HB..in order for Lock to walk in on Thursday, he would have had to leave the temple at some point on Wednesday so when he walked in on Thursday, he would not see himself. Hope i explained this right. It all gets so confusing.

  3. If the temple is time-less, then why is it in ruins with holes in the floor? And memories are not the same as time… memories have more to do with electricity than time itself, which I think we saw with all of the lightning going on.

  4. Memories can be linked to a lot of things, I was just saying one of those things is time.

The EXCLUSIVE post had the word EXCLUSIVE in the title, and it showed sneak pictures of the next episode, which helped explain my first reason of my theory.

Ben says in episode 12 to Locke “I think I know where we’re going now John. Its the same place they brought me as a child. Its where the island healed me”

  5. If the temple exists in all times then when you walked in you’d see everyone who ever walked in and everyone who ever will walk in. And what would determine the time you would walk out to?

  6. We haven’t actually seen the temple yet. Ben said it was about half a mile in from the wall. But I don’t think he suspected that part he fell into was there.

  7. Good idea, but I think highbrow is right the temple would be full of copies of individuals if it existed in any time. However I think this post and the ‘eye of the storm’ post are onto something.

My thought is that the temple may only exist in the ‘present’ regardless what time period the island is in. This would allow for an interaction between Jack and John to take place in the upcoming episode, which I think would be an awesome event to see. Although as a writer this would have a lot of wholes to work around.

Such as, what happens if jack and john exist in the same time in the temple and then try to walk out together? Do they both go into their own timelines?

Nice thoughts though and I’d love to see jack change his mind again before the season as to what he is meant to do. Because this ‘I’m going to change things’ Jack is just as annoying as he was in the first 4 seasons. It’d be nice to see him run into John and be confronted again in regards to what Jacks destiny is. Maybe Locke can get Jack back with the ‘Good Guys’.

  8. It is still very hard to explain, as there are so many possibilities, but I think it has something to do with ‘time’.

I like the s1-4 Jack, and also like this new Jack. Something has always kept me from liking Locke, I dont really know what it is.
