and so is christian on the island, locke after 316, and yemi and bens daughter in the temple. Maybe it didn’t spare bens life because he felt remorse, but because he was the one to kill jacob. He scared and manipulated him first as his daughter, and then later as locke (explaining his terrible life as jacob’s fault). That dude is crafty

I agree, it’s a little too coincidental that the fake Locke disappeared and then the smoke appeared to Ben and then his daughter told him to obey Locke.
I don’t think Jacob is dead though, I think they’ve just switched roles. Fake Locke becomes Jacob and old Jacob becomes smoke monster.

ekolocation, judging by the look on ‘fake Locke’s’ face when Ben tells him that the smoke monster told him to do whatever John Locke tells him to do, that he is pleased to no end!
Fake Locke disappeared, so the smoke monster wasn’t able to read that he was the fake Locke.
I believe that Ben was genuinely remorseful, and therefore genuinely spared by the smoke monster!
All of this worked to the ‘Fake Locke’s’ advantage! He didn’t have to do too much persuading with Ben to kill Jacob.

I agree with Dabs. I think Fake Locke smiled because he’s fooled everyone (including the smoke monster) so effectively that they’re now doing his work for him. On some shows he would have been wringing his hands too say yes, YES!

I dont get where the whole smoke monster manifesting its self as someone…i see it as a cloud of smoke…that can show ghostly images to someone…..i do not think any actual person is the smoke monster…obviously locke is dead….but the person pretending to be him is very much alive and a real person that walks around amongst others…..nobody is the smoke monster….the smoke monster is its own thing….i know i know alex appeared…but for what like a minute? i dont think smokey can jsut walk around the island for days as someone
the writers have answered in the podcast that the smoke monster is yemi, and the medusa spiders, and other manifestations.
I agree. Jacob v. Smokey for control of the island. A microcosm of Good v. Evil, God v. Satan, Beowulf v. Grendal, He-Man vs. Skeletor, the list goes on…

No way did anyone fool the smoke monster, and I really dont think anti-Locke is Smokie either…that doesnt mean that smokie isnt protecting him though…
AES, I am not suggesting that anyone fooled the smoke monster. I am saying that when the smoke monster judged Ben, Fake Locke was not present.
If he were present, the smoke monster would certainly have know he was not the real Locke!
The Fake Locke is definitely not the smoke monster IMO.
I also do not believe the smoke monster is a person, although has appeared as Yemi, Walt, etc. It is part of its abilities.
