Jacob never lived in the cabin

Perhaps it was not Jacob at all who lived in the cabin, perhaps it was his as yet un-named counterpart who wills Ben to kill him in the guise of Locke.

Perhaps when the circle of Ash was broken around the Cabin this freed this entity to wreak havoc on the island.

Now let’s be honest what Hurley saw in the cabin was certainly not on par with the good natured feelings and calm demeanor of Jacob based on all we learned of him on the island. Also the fit that was thrown with the rocking chair and Ben being tossed into the wall does not seem to fit with our Jacob who has moved about the island seemingly doing things that were more good spirited.

More over those types of things “ashes to lock in the dead” and the like from fantasy and sci fi are used to keep in what should never be allowed to get it, what if Hurley accidentally disturbed the ashes in his flight to escape the apparition in the window?

Now who trapped him in the circle? I do not know, perhaps Jacob through a loophole of his own found a way to make this happen. Only time may tell.

I will close by saying clearly Jacob lives in the statue and not the cabin, and something else was living there that was not as kind and friendly. Does this mean that this entity has controlled the dead to get his way before? Such as Christian? Was his words of encouragement to Locke no more or less than manipulations?

  1. Could this explain Claire’s changed demeanor in the cabin when we saw her there? Perhaps “he” had taken her over like he did Locke?

  2. I was thinking this too. I will have to watch the epi again to be certain of this line of thinking. Illy and her gang were never looking for Jacob. They were looking for Richard. He was the one that had the answer to the question. So, when they went to the cabin, weren’t they expecting to find Richard. She said He isn’t here and doesn’t look like he has been for awhile. Was the he she is referring to Ricardos or Jacob? Maybe Ricardos. If so, what could that mean for the show?

  3. I think what lies beneath the statue is Jacob, but why Jacob lead Ilana to the cabin if he has never lived there as you said? As I saw yesterday the Rival of Jacob had a body but not anymore because he is in Locke’s body as he was on Christian’s and Alex’s body. And I have another question where is Claire(because she is not dead)? she followed Christian so she followed the Rival, so why he needed Ben and Locke if she could go and kill Jacob herself?

  4. Good point about looking for Richard. Here is another thought for you to ponder, Hurley Bird. If “he” (Richard or Jacob)has not been in the cabin for a while-are we to assume she also does not age a la Richard? Do we know when Jacob went to see her?

  5. Thorn, I like your thoughts on this. It may in fact, make more sense, that Jacob trapped his nemesis in the cabin.

Ben had always assumed that Jacob lived in the cabin, but as we found out, it was Richard who always had ‘an audience’ with him! He in turn, gave the information to Ben.

Richard certainly proved that he knew where to find Jacob.

The question would be, who or how did Jacob’s nemesis get released?

That is something to give thought to!

  6. why could it not be as easy as Christian being the unknown man with Jacob on the beach? Christian is the one who they saw in the cabin, “i am speaking on behalf of Jacob”….. i cant recall all of the times we have seen Christian and what, if anything he did or said could lead to him being this other entity, but i sure think its possible.

  7. maybe Christians actual dead body is on the island somewhere too…. and the smoke monster used Christians body when it needed to just like it has used Lockes body like it needs to.

  8. Nope Jacob live where we seen him in the finale eppisode..The cabin belonged to Jacob’s brother…Read this theory i found below

My younger brother is known as Esau and serves me reluctantley as was prophecised

    Quote:
“”Rebecca (Jacob & Esau’s mother) overheard this conversation and realized prophetically that Isaac’s blessings would go to Jacob, since she was told before the twins’ birth that the older son would serve the younger
my brother however has been given many names and forms by different people such as Smokie, Cerberus or Hades due to how it is he has served me. For example Cerberus””

    Quote:
    “”Cerberus (Greek:

  9. Yea I think that guy just buried Christians body so he could like shapeshift and walk around pretending to be Christian.

he just did not get a chance to bury Locke’s body, it was under the plane and he had a lot of stuff to do!

  10. Great theory! This topic is what I really want to talk about after watching the finale. Although I tend to think Jacob did have something to do with the cabin since Ilana when there first.

Jumping in a little late here, but some thoughts:

Christian is Rival (as in Jacob’s Rival; this idea came from another thread … I’m adopting it with credit due as soon as I remember who it was), as Locke was Rival. They are the only two who have been “resurrected” so it makes sense. I also think when Locke/Rival left Ben with smokey, it was actually Rival appearing to Ben as Alex.

I liked Ilana’s comment “someone else has been using it.” I take it to mean someone else has been using Jacob’s “powers” so to speak, of influencing, appearing, etc. Somehow this cabin is something to be used. This other person using “it” could mean Ben, but I tend to think it means Rival, who has been manipulating the Losties, and particularly Locke, since the ash circle was broken.

  11. Thanks for the great feedback all. I do not think that Ilana was going to the Cabin to find Jacob, perhaps she was going there to confirm her fears that the “anti-Jacob” “evil entity” or “Esau” had been freed from the cabin.

She knew where Jacob lived as her question “Who lives in the shadow of the statue” implies strongly that she knows where to find Jacob.

I think Dabs said it well, Ben assumed Jacob lived in the cabin but he admits he never saw or spoke to him. He then says he was shocked when the events in the cabin took place when he was there with Locke. I think the evil entity, was asking Locke for help and had identified him as the person he could use to achieve his goal from early on in the show. Faith is a good thing, but blind faith is dangerous. Locke had blind faith in the island, and he lacked Jacks sensibilities to want to understand more on a scientific level.

I think the entity can assume the form/image of any of the dead or haunting memories of those on the island and has to drive them forward towards his own goals.

Christian being Claire’s father if truly resurrected would not encourage his daughter to leave a baby defenseless in the woods so she could track after him to visit a mysterious cabin. Even with foresight of what would happen it is not very good parenting or grand parenting and I do not see a mother EVER making that leap of faith. “yeah I will leave my baby in the crook of this tree for the night and I’ll just duck off into the jungle with my Dad who shouldn’t be here”.

soby000 that is a GREAT theory thanks for sharing it.
