They are dying!!??!!!
I think it is clear that all the people on the show are dying. At the beginning Jacob and his enemy are talking about the boat. Jacob said “I brought them here.” Jacob and enemy represent Heaven and Hell. Jacob is trying to bring people at peace with dying and redeeming themselves. His enemy just wants them to die without redemption so they can go to hell.
As per the Bible, the devil cannot directly fight with God himself. Instead he uses others. Just like what happened last night in Lost.
There is and was never any time travel. It is just in their minds. Their minds are traveling through their thoughts and memories. All these characters are bringing their thoughts to the island while they are dying. As I have said in the past WATCH THE MOVIE JACOB’S LADDER w/ Tim Robbins. Lost is exactly the same. THEY ARE DYING AND FIGHTING DEATH!!!I guarantee after the show is over next year, the producers will say that movie influenced them in writing this show.

no no no….why does everyone think this is about heaven/hell and god/satan? havent u read that story before?!? sure its called the BIBLE. I believe the writers are better than retelling the whole BIBLE story and having a religious angle. They made the finale this way so we….the viewers would have something to talk about and theorize.
What else could this show be about except death??? That is the central theme of the show!!! Sorry Darkness Within I believe you will be wrong. What subject is more unknown than death and what happens when you die?
bdiddy123, The writers have never laid any claims to the show being about ‘Jacob’s Ladder’.
They have been strongly influenced by The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Stand, among a few other books.
I think it requires an appreciation for both of these aspects to play into Lost.
Science and Faith.
Darkness….sorry, but I have to disagree. The writers have said that they Lost is heavily influenced by the stand and that book is not a retelling of the bible but is about god/satan.
its already been denied that they are in some kind of purgatory….and 6 charactors wouldnt go off this death/heaven/hell island and interact with hte real world for 3 years….and dont tell me its all in their heads….cuz that would just be rediculous
Sorry Henrygale…purgatory is after you die and wait to go to heaven and hell. They are not dead yet. When they do die (i.e. Eko, Charlie, Shannon, etc.), they “leave the island” and go into purgatory.
i see it as an end game, can humanity change it’s very core values to deserve to survive?
Sorry Darkness, but I must agree with HurleyBird. I think the show is based off the God/Satan conflict, but I think they are trying to put a twist on it. For God and Satan to be a basis in the show does not mean that the writers have to retell the whole Bible.
they are all dying running around an island..leaving and coming back and its all in their heads….sorry but it doesnt make any sense and would be a show that i wish i didnt watch
quite simply I now believe that it is god v Satan. They know what is going to happen what leads to armageddon and are using their influence on our losties to influence this battle. They cannot fight one another and hence becomes a test of faith. It is the science which is responsible for the island being found and the powers spread beyond this perhaps. This is why Jacob has tried to influence the losties early in their lives to ensure they fight… For right…. To party ( sorry couldn’t resist)
Guys… Guys… I can’t believe that everyone thinks they are taking the Hebrew angle on this… I have read the Bible many many times, and I would have to say this doesn’t resemble it. They may have been inspired by a book about God and Satan, but they are clearly putting an Egyptian twist on it… When Jack has an encounter with young Ben’s dad in the classroom, on the chalk board are written all sorts of stuff about Egypt. The people carrying Locke’s dead body are Egyptian. The statue that Jacob is in is an Egyptian statue of a crocodilian god that the Egyptians thought protected them in that it “called out for the help of other “gods” to protect them… So what lies in the Shadow of the statue? He who will protect/save us. Exactly the same as in Egyptian mythology… So who is “coming” that Jacob mentions before the end? The Egyptian “gods” that he has called upon for help.
When we first find Jacob in the beginning of this episode, he is weaving, and did any of you see what he was weaving? And all seeing eye, which could have something to do with the eye of Ra, the Egyptian sun “god”… So why does Mr.X hate light? Because he is the mortal enemy of the sun “god”…
Perhaps I am wrong… But to take the view that this is about God as we all would refer to Him is not logically possible… For me.
Yes I agree with HenryGale. If what you say turns out to be true, I will throw up for weeks on end. The people who write this show knows that 99% of the fan base would hate it, which would effectively end all future sales of T-shirts and DVD’s, Bluray discs, etc. The 9 people who watched that crap heap called “Jacob’s Ladder” and actually liked it will just have to be disappointed.
I think Jacob keeps bringing people to the island and whoever the other dude is has to corrupt them using their negative emotions – I think maybe Jacob is trying to find someone pure (which is what he meant when he said “there’s only one end everything until then is just progress” or whatever it was).
This can’t be God and Satan though because a) Ben says God can’t see this place and b) the brainwashing that Carl was having flashes up “God loves you as he loved Jacob”
It’s some sort of good v evil. Def related to god and Satan. Think of the symbols. Monster v anubis, ” the underworld” , temple all sorts of religious undertones have permeated the series and it’s been building up to next series. Something spectacular has to happen or all that gas happened before will seemmeaningless. We be had time travel why not devil and god. That’s what the stand is all about.
I still think that LOST is mix between the Genesis and The Lost Continent of Mu, which some argue was the garden of Eden mentioned on the Genesis.
Some argue that Mu is still present on the dragon triangle on the Pacific and it’s the reason for all the anomalies that occur in there.
In fact there is a theory which says that Moses wrote the Genesis based on ancient texts found in Egypt that were brought to Egypt by Atlanteans. Atlantis according to this “tale” was a colony of Mu which was much older and had already gone by the time these texts reached African/European regions.
This would explain the Egyptian architecture found on the island, the island it self, the gateway to both heaven and hell, the magnet anomalies among many other things.
