A Play on the Story of Christianity
Written on 15th May 2009
(i posted this on my blogspot, so im just gonna copy/paste it here)
i have to put this somewhere, so that its not he said she said once they finally explain it.
LOST is a play on the “mythos”, if you will, of Christianity. following the season finally, its clear that these characters are analogues to the following:
jacob : god
(the man who wants to kill jacob) : lucifer
real locke : jesus (kind of)
there are a few things that keep pointing to my conclusion, and as i continue to think about it, i just find more reasons to believe myself. like the following
- at the beginning of the finale, jacob spins, measures and cuts string, which i instantly associated with the sisters of fate, Lakhesis, Atropos, and Clotho. search wikipedia for “Moirae” for more info. if im wrong about everything, this is the one thing i am 100% sure of.
- “the man who wants to kill jacob” “finding a loophole” i think is his using a sacrifice to get to jacob, much like how jesus was a sacrifice to allow a connection between god and man.
- “the man who wants to kill jacob” (in locke form) convinces ben (who has been blindly following someone he has not seen… sound familiar?) that regardless of his loyalty to this supreme power, bad things are still happening to him?
- on the same note, jacob never forces anyone to do anything, rather he emphasizes that they have a choice about everything. the reason why he cannot (using my christianity analog) is that if he would force anyone to do anything, he would no longer be a fair god (this will make more sense to people who are more inclined on the “great controversy”.
im sure there are many more analouges in terms of characters that i have not identified, and other miscellaneous evidence pointing to it, like richards language-encrypted response “the one who we all serve”/”the one who will save us” (its one of the two, not both; im still not sure), but im pretty sure that i hit the nail on the head. either that, or i made LOST 40x more interesting to think about until next season
just my two cents.
