Only the Leader Can Meet Jacob

Mr. Rival was the Leader of the Others at the start. Something happened and he was no longer the leader. Jacob may have gone into hiding and could not be found by Rival. Therefore he can no longer meet with JACOB. He posed as Christian to tell John to kill himself. That way when the 6 get back he can take John’s existence and trick Richard into finding Jacob. Then he can finally kill him and take control of the island.
Very interesting theory!!! But then why didn’t he just kill Jacob when he had the chance? Back when the Black Rock was heading for the island?
