  1. zenscientist, I definitely would agree that Jacob and his Nemesis are not God and Satan, but representative of the very nature of good and evil.

There is a lot of mythology and other venues for the writers to seek out in order to tell their story.

A very well written and thought out theory!

Thanks for not referring to Jacob’s nemesis as Rival, as the term, by definition, underplays the importance of his role.

I will definitely come back with more thoughts on this one!

  2. Well said. To pin down the players as particular individuals is WAY too simplistic and it’s doubtful that that was ever intended to be the case. The beauty of the allegory is it’s may possible interpretations. I really like the Eden spin, by the way. The juxtaposition of science (tree of knowledge) and faith (trust in Jacob) fits in nicely. No angel with a flaming sword, but fire does beget smoke… We even have an “Adam & Eve” to play around with. The island really has always had a forbidden paradise kind of feel to it. The thought deserves some pondering.

  3. Hum….I definitely agree that it’s broader than a didactic “God and Satan model”…even the Biblical flood is referenced and prevalent in several world cultures,as well as basic creationism. My question is, as it lays outside my expertise, are their other accounts of the biblical stories such as Job these other prevalent cultures? “Dark and light” are unmistakable metaphors and it only stands to reason to compare it to what is familiar….I thought the finale was brilliant!
