a Richard thought
We all are now led to believe Richard came from the black rock. Model ship he was building was the same as the black rock. I have the feeling he has been rewarded with immortality for his servicesto Jacob. I was not so sure Jacob was the good guy in the final episode, sure we saw him be nice to the losties perhaps because he wants them to do something?but I do wonder if Jacob got Richard to kill his rival after the black rock arrived. This pre empted his rivals attack. Perhaps Richard trapped him in the cabin. Hence Jacobs gratitude and Richards immortality. Rival then escape and planned the john Locke manueovre to kill Jacob. The island will now be governed by both these men in smoke monster form and the prevailent side in the war will decide the fate of mankind. Are those in Jacobs camp fighting for good. Everything until the end is just progress! Got any ideas, just a thought!

well richard has just confused me this entire time, so that works for me
ive been thinking lately that people have been switching with another version of themselves from their near future.seeing as richard doesnt seem to age,im thinking that he has been switching with past versions of himself periodically.its like we never see the same richard twice.i cant think of any other explanation.
GK21, I think with the finale, it would seem as though Richard may originate from the Black Rock.
I like the idea of Richard Alpert having more involvement, than we have been led to believe, and perhaps his reward for enslaving Jacob’s Nemesis could have been for placing him the cabin as a virtual prisoner. Although we have no evidence pointing to this, it is a good idea!
I was beginning to wonder if Richard had much usefulness.
I don’t think ‘the island’ will be governed by anyone, until after the final showdown between these two opponents.
The smoke monster appears only to stand in judgement and assess a person’s actions, and took on Walt’s form to appear to John Locke in the pit. It was to help John, if you recall.
The smoke monster may help John Locke but ultimately the only reason it helps John is to get him to believe unquestioning that he must do as “the island” wants. All these little decisions help to influence JOhn he has to kill himself surely. I don’t really know about the smoke monster part that was justa rushed aside, but I do believe that Jacob knows what is goingto happen, and like you Dabs I am not totally convinced he is the good guy. The Richard part I am virtually convinced of.
