interesting theory but this painting was done by jack bender, a director for lost. he was told to “come up with something” that desmond may have painted while in the hatch. it has no relevance unless they wrote lost around this painting, which would make me seriously question the quality of writing on this show.
Interesting analysis. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Incident. The sum of the Swan numbers do seem to be inside of a sun, but then again it could also be the explosion of the Swan (caused by Desmond). It is linked to the stick figures whom look to me as if they are standing on a beach. I don’t see any electromagnetism there. The black man must be Eko, seeing that he’s BLACK 😉 and wearing a priest’s collar. The water, fish and boat most certainly reflect Desmond’s oceanic odyssey.
Overall, the painting seems to be a combination of Desmond’s past, present and future. This works perfectly seeing as he was temporarily dislodged in time, thus allowing his ability to see these things.

* Stick figure people right-side up. One of the stick figures is connected with a red line to the numbers. Some of the stick figures are in a section of the mural that is red as opposed to yellow.
* Moon and starry night. The moon’s phase appears to be between waning crescent and last quarter.
* The Arrow is heading towards 325° and at the left side of the Arrow you can read “Out”.
Black figure with arms out to me looks like Jacob an or rival there is a cloud of white wround this too. Could it mean that the incident happened Jacobs rival took control?
