Robespierre and Jacob

Perhaps this was discussed earlier, but in the new information given, how about Jacob is the bad guy – much like that Frenchy Rousseau deciple Robespierre – see below …

Jeremy Bentham (who told Locke to pick that name, anyway? Christian as MIB?) according to Lostpedia didn’t like the violence of Robespierre’s ‘the Jacobins’ Reign of Terror. Rob’s & Jacob’s philosophies kinda gel even to stirring up the masses and having faith in the progress as Robespierre was ‘the Incorruptable’, and his evil has been attributed to faith over reason … and if Jacob is really like Robspierre, MIB may just want to rid him to stop the terror of the cycle.

  1. waycurious, I find it interesting that Charles Widmore selected the alias of Jeremy Bentham for John Locke.

Bentham also designed a famous prison structure called the “Panopticon”, which creates a sense of constant surveillance and paranoia amongst prisoners.

Much of how ‘the others’ watched Jack Shepherd, Sawyer, and Kate was very similar to the Panopticon.

Bentham was also known for his outspoken opposition to the French revolutionary discourse of natural rights, an idea championed by philosopher John Locke (whose father, also named John Locke, worked for Jeremy Bentham).

He also suggested a procedure for estimating the moral status of any action. His principle regards “good” as that which produces the greatest amount of physical or spiritual pleasure, and the minimum amount of pain; and “evil” as that which produces the most pain without the pleasure.

Robespierre, established a group called “The Cult of The Supreme Being”, which was quite different from the God of Christianity.

The Jacobins have an eerie reminiscence to Jacob. It is a worthy read!
