Ben and Annie

when Ben was a child he had a friend/sweetheart named Annie. She carved out two dolls and gave them to him for his birthday. She told him, this one is you and this one is me and now we will never be apart.

Flash forward to Juliet speaking with Harper, (the local head-shrinker and her future lover’s wife) Harper makes the statement-‘you look just like her’.

I LOVE this show! my favorite characters-in no particular order: Hurley; Locke; Sayid; and of course, Vincent-(if he doesn't make it to the end-there will be anarchy!) I am soooo over: Jack-'does this guy ever NOT cry?' Shepherd (so annoying)...Kate 'let me leave a trail of destruction if i don't get my way' Austen; 'i'm as smart and einstein' Radzinsky (obviously not smart enough to keep your brains OFF of the ceiling); Anna 'big chip on my shoulder' Lucia (see ya!)

  1. I think there are two candidates. One is Annie, the other is his mother. We are supposed to get more on Annie, but of course they also said we would get more Libby, so who knows.

  2. well done for remembering and picking up on this!!
i think maybe that annie did die in the purge OR possibly, when dr chan was getting everyone off the island (ie baby miles/young charlotte) annie was taken off the island then. she may have come back, or, on one of ben’s visits off the island, he may have tracked her down, and maybe found out she was married and didnt want to be with ben. i think if that was true then maybe he took the picture from her house – which makes my mind think that maybe he came of the island to see her, and found out she had died, and he’s got the picture to remind him of her… i definately dont think she died in the purge, as ben was still a teenager, and if the picture looks like juliet, then annie must have been older than a teenager at that point in time..

  3. I don’t think that she died in the purge; although Ben was a grown man by the time the purge took place-I suppose she would have been the right age. Ben was sitting in the van with his dad when he put the gas mask on and gassed his father. We later learn from Ben-searching for Jacob’s cabin with Locke and Hurley- that he was not the leader of the others the day the purge took place; he defected from dharma and helped the others to carry out this plan so that his life would be spared.

  4. Ben had apparently already been working with the Others before the purge so I don’t think that helping them carry that out was done in return for being spared. He may not have been the leader at the time but he was onboard with it.

If Annie was evacuated when Dr. Chang ordered all the women and children off the island then Ben wouldn’t really remember her… Richard said that Ben wouldn’t remember anything after being taken into the Temple and saved and if Annie is gone when he gets back then he basically won’t know her anymore even though she was obviously very special to him. He does have the doll that she gave him and possible a picture so he knows what she looks like. Maybe he still feels some bit of closeness for her even though he can’t quite associate any real memories of her with his feelings…

  5. highbrow-i definitely agree that ben was onboard…he said to hurley that he did what he did so that he wouldn’t wind up in that ‘ditch’ as well. i also think that ben probably recruited a few hand-picked ‘dharma-ites’ to defect along with him…but, i digress…if ben was in someway obsessed with annie-an unrequited love, or just grief and loss-it might go towards his ‘obsession’ with the fertility project. but then again-richard told kate that ben would not remember being shot, or anything surrounding how he was injured. also, that he would no longer be ‘innocent’ and he would never be the same; ben would always be ‘one of us’…so, is ben really even capable of any sort of attachment to another human being-other than something dark, like obsession, that benefits only himself?
