I disagree with your premises. You state that for every war there is a winner. I would suggest that there is never a winner in war and that both sides lose.
hmm. I think there is definately a fight between good and evil, -black and white- going on but we are unclear on who is who.
however both Eloise Hawking and Charles Whidmore seem to know the future of at least certain people off the island. And since Jacob is larger than both, i Believe he knows the future as well.
interestingly enough, I think it was Stephen Hawking who said, the Gods do not throw dice.
I do agree about the outcome cannot be predicted before-hand, that is what i think Jacob and MIB are arguing over.
We do know that fortune has turned the sides of war, for example the American revolution. The brits were kicking some major ass somewhere and the U.S. was screwed, but then for whatever reason it became extremely cold at a time when it should not have been, the roads froze over which made it possible for the U.S. to slide a bunch of cannons they would not have been able to get to a key battle which caused their victory. (I could be mixing it up, it might have been the Civil war this happened in, forgive me)
In this case tho, it can be argued that the Gods affected the outcome in a way they saw fit by affecting the weather, but what happens when the gods themselves are fighting and there is no one above them to affect the outcome? does it then become the little guy who affects the outcome? yin and yang?
