Jacob- just an average guy!
When we all see Jacob “recruiting” the losties in their pasts, i thought to myself, how can Jacob leave the island if he is a supposed deity? I mean, come on, he’s in charge of telling the leader of the others what to do! Yet somehow, he is able to travel around the world, touching people. He even takes the time to admire nature and relax. i.e. he sits outside on a bench while reading a book before touching Locke. All of these characteristics are similar to Ben’s behavior off of the island. This leads me to believe that Jacob has to answer to a higher authority and he does his/her/it’s bidding. What do you think?

Good point.
That would indicate a more likely 2 (of virtually limitless!) possibilities…
1)That if Jacob is some form of super-human deity, his power extends further than the island.
2)That if he isn’t godlike (and is more like Richard Alpert, for example), perhaps the higher power he answers to is the Island itself?
-or Nemesis-Esau-MIB?
In very Biblical terms God granted Lucifer the most important gift of all, the freedom to choose good over evil and the Archangel chose evil.
Lucifer (which stands for the bearer of light) cannot be destroyed by his creator. But if another of God’s creations finds a way of destroying Lucifer then so be it.
Built in to each of us is a fail safe device (as they say in Blade Runner) which is mortality. Lucifer has no such device. But there is a higher power he has to answer to, that of his own creator.
