Claire/Jacob/Kate
Well, lostlove’s post got me thinking of a the theory I came up w/ reading it, with some other stuff added.
I just finished rewatching season 1, and I basically think there is A LOT more to Kate’s story then we still know. Why did she kill her father? (I don’t believe it was just b/c he beat her mom, and made sexual advances towards her.) And, why was she so heartless in killing the guy in the bank to get her safe deposit box, w/ the airplane. Either Kate is true bad ass, the worse seed from Flight 815, or she’s been following someone’s orders from before she arrived at the island on Flight 815. What if Kate somehow is and, always has been an other?
Now, the theory that just came to me regarding Claire. Let’s say Jacob did make a deal w/ her you have to stay on the island w/ your Dad, leave baby Aaron, and your mom will be healed, and she will raise him. This makes sense, Claire would trust her mother completely in caring for Aaron. Kate basically delivered him to her when the time was right, and then went to return to the island.
Thoughts…..

I agree Kate does seem heartless sometimes. I definately think Kate’s story will be a big part of season 6. If Kate was always an other is it possible that she was Ben’s childhood friend Anne (the one who gave him the doll)? Anne is kate’s middle name plus it is one of her alias’s.
Sam Austin (the person she thought was her dad for most of her life) was in the military, so maybe he had a connection with the island…?
I still think this makes the most sense. Ever wonder why the agent trying to arrest her was really trying so hard? He had no reason to unless he was working for Charles and just wanted to stop her from getting to the island. I mean Ben did have that discussion with her for lunch during season 2 or 3 I forget. We don’t know what they talked about. All sorts of unanswered things going on.
Sinster, I like your line of thinking on this.
I think it is reasonable that Jacob could have intervened with Claire’s mother, and healed her. If you recall, Christian eluded to Claire, that she should give up hope of her mother ever regaining consciousness.
Not knowing whether Claire is presently alive or dead, leaves us to ponder why she would simply abandon Aaron. You provide a nice explanation, if she is still amongst the living. If she is dead, than she would know that Aaron would be safe!
As for Kate, she has had training from Major Austen in tracking, hunting, shooting, etc. She equally rivals John Locke’s ‘outdoor’ abilities. I am certain there is a lot more to Kate, than we already know.
I am just not sure, that she would turn out to be an ‘other’, though.
Her skills, however make her a valuable asset amongst ‘the losties’ in addition to being a strong ally to Jacob.
I agree with you on Clarie, but not so much with Kate. I believe that what’s been shown of her in her flashbacks is all fact with justification that doesn’t involve the Others. I don’t think the Others had anything to do with her actions. All of the things she did such as killing her father and getting the toy plane were explained and justified. The fact that they were given justification feels like an end of story to me. Not that there can’t be more to her story I just don’t think she’s been taking orders from someone all her life.
Side note… during season 2 she told Wayne, who appeared to be in Sawyers body, that she killed him because she couldn’t stand the fact that she was a part of him and that she would never be good. But obviously the fact that he hit her mom and would make sexual advances toward her also played a major role in his murder. Also, I don’t think she killed the guys for the safe deposit box, she just wounded them because they were going to kill the bank manager which wasn’t part of the deal and such.
And to Surago636… The Marshall was trying really hard to get her because it’s his job and she also committed murder, was taken in to custody, and then she escaped and was on the run. I don’t think Charles Widmore or the Others have anything to do with that.
I think because he beat her mam was a good enougth reason to kill him even without the sexual advances imageing if someone was beating on your mam what would you do
i think i agree with cookiesgalore for the most part. Don’t think kate was the childhood friend as we’ve seen kate as a child, she had her friend, the one with the time capsule that she obviously spent a lot of time with, leaving not much time for life on the island.
I also think the marshal was after her so hard, because she did escape, i think from him, but then like he said later, she would call and taunt him in a way. So for him it was extremely personal.
one thing i still want to know…
who was that woman in the store that almost took Aaron when Kate was shopping???
I still think it’s a future version of Claire, like if she got sent back to ’77 and made it off and came to get him.
We have seen Kate as a little girl and we have seen Annie as a little girl. They are not the same people.
