Corrupt
What could the nameless one on the beach mean by “They corrupt.”?
Here are some definitions of the word which might apply.
1. To make corrupt; to change from good to bad; to draw away from the right path; to deprave; to pervert; In a depraved state; debased; perverted; morally degenerate; weak in morals; With lots of errors in it; not genuine or correct; in an invalid state; In a putrid state; spoiled; tainted. I don’t really think any of the Losties fall into this definition as most, not all, already were like this before they got to the Island.
2.corrupt morally or by intemperance or sensuality; “debauch the young people with wine and women”; “Socrates was accused of corrupting young men”; “Do school counselors subvert young children?”; “corrupt the morals” . Maybe MIB was worried they would corrupt the others?
3. To damage (data) in a file or on a disk. Hopefully we are not veiwing the Matrix!
4.To change the original form of. Similar to the one above but not the same. To me the most intriguing. Perhaps he’s thinking they can change into something else.
Any thoughts?
I thought he is talking about them corrupting the island, if it is a character itslf then it can be corrupted, maybe by people not using the properties for personal growth but trying to get some profit from it. No matter what intentions they may come with they fight amongst themselves, destroy relationships, parts of the island then try to corrupt the core ‘being’ of the island and use it rather than be at one with it. Just a thought.
