The Egg/Chicken theory: A New timeline

Ok. It’s been a while since my last post in here, so i’ll try not to mention something that has already been said before. If I do, please tell.

This theory just came to me on my way home from work. It was a real mind blowing train of thought, and I wanted to type it in right away before it was all gone…

The theory involves Season’s 6 main theme, which the writters have said to be totally different from anything they have donde before on any past season.
But before I begin, I need everyone who is reading to understand certain theories and facts concerning season 5. These theories are, in my believe, what most people think as facts now:

1) Flocke is the “reincarnation” of the MIB (man in black) guy, he found a way to kill Jacob (whith the loophole). Many bealive this MIB is in fact the black smoke. I santd neutral on that theory, as I do not know for sure about this matter.
2) Jacob has a way to bring the poeple he wants to the island (aparently by touching them, or with this and some others factors that I myself do not know this far). Try to see again “the incident” on seaon 5, and watch closely that Jacob touches every single one of the Losties on the flashbacks, some do not apear to be a “touch”, but it does, watch closely.
3) Before Jacob dies on the season finale, he says to Flocke and Ben “they are coming”. What I infered from this was that Jacob was talking about the Losties, that they would arrive from the past to the island on the present date (the how of this is part of my theory ahead).
4) The MIB had a gigantic plan involving the way to find this precious “loophole” he was looking for. In order to do this, he foresaw all of the posible events on a time line and its people that coexisted in it. For this, I will explain on backwards deduction steps:
First, MIB knew that the only way to kill Jacob was to convince someone else to do so (Ben, in this case), as he cannot touch a living being (I am not sure if this is because they are both gods, or because MIB is dead and Jacob is not, or beacause Jacob is alive and the people that MIB uses as avatars area dead and therefore cannot interact with living people). But, in order to do so, he knew that he would only listen to Locke.
Then, to reincarnate on Locke, he would first have to kill him (or he needs him to die). To do so, he knew that he would have to bring Ben to the island, and ultimately apoint him as The Others leader. He would have to tell him to do this, to do so, and not to question anything he said. He would have to make his life miserable; to kill his daughter…etc, every single thing we know that Jacob did and said to him, without even showing him self (Jacob) to Ben. But MIB knew that Jacob would do all this (cuz this is a game for them), so he just waited for Jacob to do so, until Ben would be sick of him, and want to kill him.
So, in order to kill Locke, he would have to take the place of Jacob in the cabin, and say to Ben or Locke that he was speaking “on behalf” of Jacob (season 4). This is were MIB starts to use the cabin and to play as Jacob, convincing Locke that he had to move the island. But MIB knew that Ben was ambicious, and that he would now let Locke move it (MIB also knew that Ben know how to move it, and Locke does not, therefore he would insist to move it himslef, I mean Ben).
This way, MIB knew that Ben would not move the FDW propertly, and that the island would start “jumping in time”, as he wanted all along.
Now that he has the island moving in time, MIB knew that Locke would eventually try to save everyone on the island by going to the FDW. It is here that Cristian again apears to Locke (or MIB reincarnated), and has the all know conversation were he knew that Locke would ask that id it was true that he had to die to save the people on the island od off the island.
Then Locke moves the FDW, and the Losties travel to the 70’s. MIB know needs to kill Locke on the outside world. This is were MIB knew that by telling Locke to go see Faraday’s mom, Ben would knock on Locke’s door to try and stop him before he kills himself (either way, Locke would have died, but it turned out that Ben heard the info that Locke had that was so valuable for him that he had to kill him with it).
Now that Locke is dead, he needs his body back on the island. This is were the part of Cristian’s plan of him telling Locke to bring every single one of the people who left the island comes in handy. MIB knew that by saying this, they would all return (insluding Ben and Locke, specially those two).
So finally, they arrive on the island with Locke’s body, and Ben included.
The rest is self explained…Ben kills Jacob and he found the loophole.
5) On season 5, Faraday keeps saying over and over again about the fact that “whatever happened, happened”, and that the past cannot be changed. But, as we turned out to know by the end of the season, he changes his mind into thinking that the past can be changed by the people (or the variables in the ecuation of time travel).

Ok, so those were the facts and theories that you need to know in order to fully understand the theory, which goes like this (SPOILER ALERT AHEAD, I’ll mark it with ***):

So, my theory is about the fact that the past can be changed, and that Faraday was right (or so I now concider). I have to admit that inicially, I never ever ever concidered the posibility of the past been “alterable”, as Faraday first said: “whatever happened, happened”. But in order to approach the theory, and why I think it is very posible for the past to be changed, I will start with the typical counter argument:

If the H bomb goes off on the island, then the chain of events would be:
1) The “incident” that Dr. Chang talks about in the Orientation film never ocurrs (let’s not think that they caused the incident, that the H bomb is the incident).
2) As a consecuence, the electromagentic energy that was builging up over and over, never happens.
3) Therefore, the Swan station is now only for research, and not for pressing the botton.
4) Oceanic 815 never crashes, as it is not affected by the electrmagnetic energy that was emanated due to Desmond not pressing the button the day Kevin Inman dies (his former hatch partner).
5) As a consecuence of the Losties not landing on the island, they never acutally travel back in time to the 70’s, therefore they never stop the incident from happening, and thus, the past never changed.

Well, I first thought of that. It made perfect sense. Until today. *** SPOILER ALERT ***
If you search at wikipedia, you can find the episode’s names for the next season. Season 6 premiere is called LAX(los angeles airport)***SPOILER END***, meaning that it is highly probable that we will be shown that flight 815 actually never crashes on THIS NEW TIMELINE.
But, how to get that anoying counter argument form above I thought? Well, it all comes back to the famous Egg/Chicken theory on time travel.
Let’s now just think all for the moment that Oceanic 815 lands on LAX. If in fact this happens (which would happen around 2004, not 2008), the Losties never get to the island. But, this is a new time line, and with it, comes the Egg (the incident never happened), and the Chicken (Losties land on LAX). One is the cause, the other the effect, but in time travel-like form, meaning that the Losties are at the LAx airport beacuase the incident in that specific timeline (a new one), never ocurred. But to all Egg/Chicken theory, there must be a loòp, which conects them both. Here is were we get rid of the counter argument from above:

If the losties never crash on the island, and land on LAX, they will now travel back in time to 1974, and they do not need, beacuse they already did! Now, if they were able to travel back in time, they would be in a “Back to the future” kind of event, in which they would see themselfs trying to prevent the incident from happening (their past versions). But the producers said that the time travel is over, and that there is a single timeline in whick the events ocurr on season 6.
So in conclusion, they never travel back to 1974, becuase they ones that make the Egg again in this loop, are the losties on the OLD TIMELINE. And so on, they (the 70’s losties) prevent the incident from ocurring, they travel to 2004 in a new timeline, and eventually they come back on 2008 to the island (from Jacob’s comments that they would come soon).

Lol, the theory is not even to the half, hahha, I will continue it as I post it so that everyone can read and give me thoughts and corrections.

  1. […Theory continues here…]

So, as I was saying, they arrive at Lax.
This is were I bealive that we will be shown the new timeline of lost, a timeline in which the losties never crash on the plane to the island, but eventualy end up on the island never the less. I bealive season 6 will be the half of it about how the 2004 losties from this timeline end up on the island in the end, and the other half will be about MIB and Jacob’s game, and how this answers many of the unanswered questions of lost.

Ok, so this is WHAT I believe will happen, but HOW does this happen you say?
    I whought of it too.
It is all Jacob’s plan now. Each and one of them has a plan on trying to show each other their respective points (which I do not know for sure).
I think that Jacob knew that MIB would try and finf this loophole, and he actually maybe saw it coming all algong as it played out (maybe Jacob’s much bigger plan was to make MIB think his plan was working, and that way Jacob would leave Sawyer in ridiculous with his MEGA HYPER LONG CON). As jacob knew about this inminent death that was coming, he had to move quickly and put in motion his own plan (or as I said, maybe I was already in motion as Jacob maybe thought of it since MIB plan started).
This way, Jacob brought the losties to the island by touching them, they crashed, they did everything they did, and finally they also changed time by preventing the incident form happening. This way, we will be shown how the 2004 LAX losties come back to the island thanx to Jacob doings, and what jacob said just before he died will home true.
What will happen after that I do not know, but I belive that Richard, Illiana and the Losties will face MIB/Flocke, and try to end the war they have there, to finally bring peace to the island…

  2. Wehere did I say that if the incident did not ocurr, then the O 815 would land on 1974?
I did not say that, and If I did, let it be corrected, I meant that the versions of the Losties on the old timline would arrive on 1974, as it did happen, as is is supposed to happen, so that everything in the actual new timeline has any sense and cooherence and consitance.

The losties of the present time (the ones stuck now on 1977), would arrive to 2004 on LAX.

I meant the “Back to the future” kind of event to explain what would happen if the new timeline Losties travel to 1974 after having exploted the H bomb and having landed on LAX after this. They would see themselfs on the past.
I did not meant to mix the EGG/Chicken theory and the “back to the future” events.
And finally, the Egg/Chciken analogy I reffered to, has an infinite loop to it, it has no begining. You would seem to think that it starse when thet explode the H bomb, but for eveyone else on the timeline other than them, the this have always happened the way it did (The incident never ocurred, the losties never crashed on the island…etc).

    Hope it helps.

  3. Dude, I get your point here. The thing is that you do not get mine.
My simple reason for birnging the whole Egg/Chicken theory on the table is to make the timline change consistent. Period.
    Think it like this:

    a) On the old timeline in which the losties crash on the island, there is a loop (infinite, without beggining).
    b) On the new timeline werew the losties land on LAX there is also a loop (infinite, with no beggining).

Get it? You have to see them separetely, not as a change, in which the whole egg/chicken theory dos not apply anymore due to a start in a new timeline as you have well said.

In order to accept the timline change, you have to invalid the counter argument I sateted before in my theory, in which, if the losties prevent the incident from happening, they will not return to the isladn to prevent it in the first place, therefore the timeline is unchangable. This is suported by THE EGG/CHICKEN THEORY, cuz there is no beginning.
But, if you accept the change, a new timeline has it’s own consistent rules governed by the egg/chicken theory.
If you do not see an egg/chicken theroy in the new timeline, the counter argument stated comes in play to demolish my theory down.

    Get it?

  4. It is simply consistence for the new timeline to work.

One could say that because there is an egg that will hatch into the chicken that is the incident, if you prevent the chicken from living, therefore the egg in the first place will never be ever laid. Thus, the chikcen will never be born, and so on, the typical egg/chicken theory.
