Question about the smoke monster
So we officially know that the Smoke Monster is the Man In Black, and does not have a mind of it’s own.
Then how is it that Ben is/was able to summon it?

good question, does it mean that mib/smokie was there all the time as someone else and just let ben think he was able to summons it?
He didnt…it seemed as if he did.
He couldnt control it anymore than you or I…it just protected him because it needed him.
It could have something to do with the fact that someone shot at MIB, smoke monster does not like guns, esp when they are used against island people.
MIB might have been a “slave” to the island. he was always tasked with protecting it.
Mabye he got banished from the temple. and tasked with protecting the island. jacob was sent to watch over him.
the plug summoning thing doesnt allow you to control the monster, only alert it. If theres trouble you pull the plug. the monster comes and cleans up the situation. (thats what im guessing at least)
killing jacob allowed him to be free. or something like that. now he wants to return home(temple?)
