That darn frozen donkey wheel…

So, i watched the premiere episodes yesterday… WOW. Still haven’t got my head around the craziness but it would seem we’re in for a wild ride.

I’ve just been wondering about the frozen donkey wheel and the time travelling it caused, after watching the recap ‘lost:the final chapter’. What i find odd is Christian told Locke to move the island, Ben knew about the donkey wheel but Richard and the others were not aware of any time travelling.
First question is, how did Ben know about the frozen donkey wheel and who else knew about it? Surely if the wheel had been turned before, Richard, the man whos been there forever, would have witnessed something. Was that the first time it had been turned?

I guess my main question is, was Ben the only person alive (the other being ‘Christian’) who knew about the wheel? Hes one slippery son of a bitch.

I'm a hiphop producer from London, and obviously a huge fan of Lost. Its a bit of a love/hate thing as its made me cynical of all other TV shows (Heroes being one of the most overrated poorly written shows i've seen). Never been into much big american TV drama or Sci-fi, more into british comedy, but Lost has been amazing, and i really hope it continues that awesomeness in its final season. I'm usually pretty good at predicting the end of a story which can annoy people around me, but this show is so intricately constructed, even in its 2nd to last season, i still don't have a clue. I'm trying my best though.

  1. I still find it odd that Richard didn’t know about time travel until Locke told him, if he’s been there so long working for Jacob what’s going on. Jacobseems to have a lot of seperate groups knowing very little of each other and the island.

  2. Hi shepards_flocke, according to Lostpedia, prior to 1974 there was an ancient well that was paritially collapsed or filled in.

Pierre Chang and Dharma discovered the FDW in 1977 when they say they used sonar imaging. Perhaps, this is how Ben knew about it. Charlotte also was aware of the old well. She was the person who told them how to find it.

We don’t know for certain if Richard knew about the well, and we can only guess that Charles Widmore did know of its existence, as he was the person waiting for Locke in Tunisia when Locke arrived.

Richard seemes to know about certain things which are important and not about other things. Not sure why, though.

  3. i agree. Thats why i’m wondering was that the first time the wheel was turned.

its wierd on this show, if someone finds out or knows something, they don’t tell ANYONE.

  4. sorry Dabi, wrote that before you posted.

Thanks for the info there. Trying to figure out who knows what on this show is one of the things that confuses me the most.

  5. I agree with you, but where would the mystery be? lol

There is a Buddhist reference to the Dharmacackra Wheel with 8 spokes which says that the wheel of time is turned three times.

Ben turned the wheel, Locke turned it. What we don’t know is, if it had ever been turned before, or if there is still an option left open to turn it again…

  6. interesting, i did not know about the Dharmacackra wheel, these writers are incredible with the references.

Reminds me of when i first saw a picture of the ‘Large hadron collider’….’DHARMA LOGO!!’

But you’re right about the mystery thing, its how they write the story.
I know if i was on some crazy island where i’ll eventually fulfill my destiny, i’d talking about it ALOT.
