The Ugly Reality of No Plane Crash
Written 3rd February
In LA X we began to see what our losties would have encountered if their plane did not crash. None of them had anything particularly wonderful to look forward to in LA, and most of them had daunting realities to face there. Examples:
-Jack’s main responsibility once he returned was to bury his father. After that we can assume he would have continued a path of alcoholism and self loathing
-Kate is a fugitive again.
-Sawyer murdered a man who did not harm his family, and still doesn’t know who did.
-Charlie is addicted to drugs.
-Locke is paralyzed physically and emotionally by his father.
-Claire will be giving her baby up for adoption.
You get the point.
So it would seem to me that we are somehow being shown that crashing on the island was a good thing for all of them and the only way that they had a chance to possibly lead happy lives. Almost as if the island can save you from yourself! I think that the timeline occuring now in LA will lead to nothing but heartache for them (all except for Hurley who has apparently come out better in this scenario). I know that this is not so much a theory as an observation, but I don’t feel that it’s coincidence. I am hoping some interesting thought could spawn from this.

You are so right about this–it’s a version of what happened, happened, and course-correcting. Even though the plane didn’t crash, they are still the same people with the same problems. I think you’re right about the island being the place where they have the opportunity to change and redeem themselves.
