Locke talking to Ben in the Cafeteria

Written 10th March

While Ben was having lunch w/ Artz in the cafeteria and Locke joined the conversation and said “well maybe he just doesn’t care as much anymore” or however he said it. It struck me that maybe that is what the MIB/Jacob battle is about. That MIB and Jacob were both assigned to protect the island and MIB just doesn’t care enough anymore so Jacob is trying to take over the sole role as official leader/keeper of the island. Maybe MIB was assigned to protect the island (maybe by Dharma Initiative?) and he let the plane crash and some ship wrecks and other plane crashes happen letting people possibly discover the mysticalness and intrigue of the island that Dharma was trying to hide from the world and the reason it is so hard to leave is they do not want people of the world to know of the islands power. Maybe now Jacob is trying to take the reigns from MIB and that is what the ultimate battle is about. Jacob must kill MIB for reign of the island. (Kind of like the battle going on between Ben and the principal) and they must choose moral sides. MIB decides to kill and infect his chosen ones while Jacob touches and blesses them to never be able to kill themselves. It’s a little far fetched I know but…any thoughts?

  1. Maybe John’s SLU is somewhat a parallel to SMocke. He’s tempting Ben to seal his fate as by-any-means-necessary-manipulator. The “he just doesn’t care” is exactly what Ben was thinking about Jacob. Will watch SLU John’s interactions w/other characters, particularly the episode’s main, more carefully in the future.
