Widmore on Jacob’s Team
Hey guys,
First post here, but years of reading. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and theories over the past 5 seasons. Not trying to steal anyone’s idea if this has already been thrown out.
I believe that Widmore is on Jacob’s team and here is why.
Due to Widmore sending the freighter to the island to capture Ben, not kill him, but take him off the island I believe he is on Jacob’s side. I believe that Jacob has some sort of communication with Widmore and Jacob knew that Ben would be the end of him and he was using Widmore to take Ben off of the island to avoid the death of Jacob regardless of his nonexistent fight when he was stabbed. The ironic thing is that this caused Alex to be killed in front of Ben and she (MIB as her) was the reason that he was so angry that he “choose” to kill Jacob. I guess it is also possible that Jacob in turn would then have known how it was all going to play out and he wanted Ben to be the one to kill him and it was only Alex’s death that could spur him to do something like that, but either way Jacob and Widmore are completely on the same page.
Also, when Ben was back on the “mainland” and had the conversation with Widmore and Widmore told him that he knew “what” Ben was, etc. I believe he knew “What” Ben was and that is a murderer. I know some are trying to turn that into Ben being Smokie or something to that degree, but Ben used to seem to know everything and now it seems as if we are above his paygrade.
Anyways, that’s my current theory for whatever it’s worth. Thanks for reading guys!

I think you’re right about Widmore – that’s why he sent Locke back to the island so that the right side would win.
i also agree about widmore, i think he was always on jacob’s team… he kind of even led des 2 the island…
Nice post. I would love to believe that Widmore is on Jacob’s side and that he is not as bad of a guy as [Ben?] makes him out to be. The only thing holding me back is the Miles’ epidsode: When Miles is planning to go to the island on Widmore’s freighter, Brahm tells him that he is not ready to go to the island yet and that a war is coming and if Miles gets on Widmore’s freighter he’ll be on the wrong side. So Brahm, we’re pretty sure, is on Jacob’s side, and it sounds to me like Widmore is not.
I’d like to agree with your theory and I had bee thinking the same thing. Although I,Locke’s comment does put a damper on it. My grounds for Jacob and Widmore being on the same side is that Jacob told Hurley that someone was coming to the island and he needed to help them get there and then within an episode or two Widmore arrives on his sub. Maybe Widmore isn’t necessarily on Jacob’s side but since Jacob is more than a regular man he knows that he can use Widmore to his advantage or get him on his side.
Basically everyone who was ever brought to or born on the Island seem to belong to Team Jacob somehow unless they are recruited/infected by Nemesis.
But Team Jacob seems to have horrible internal problems.

Well, Widmore is not on Flocke’s side, that’s (almost) for sure.
It seems so weird and inappropriate that Widmore seems to be more in the know than for example Richard.
