why did the Gun jam?

Written 16th March

Just wanted to know why you think the gun jammed, when jack pulled the trigger on locke?
This also happened a couple of times to other people. Is there a connection to the rules, jacob’s touch, candidates?

  1. The gun didn’t jam… Locke said, “It’s not loaded,” right after Jack pulled the trigger.

The only person I remember a gun jamming on would be Michael off island. But, that was when he was trying to kill himself. He was warned by TOM: I got some bad news for you, amigo. You can’t kill yourself. The Island won’t let you!

And, then you have Jack’s suicide attempt at the bridge, which was stopped by the woman who crashed her car.

The whole candidate thing and the rules on who can kill or be killed or kill themselves is all a bit confusing…

It would seem that candidates can kill other candidates because we know Hurley is a candidate that killed another candidate, Ryan Price. And, Sawyer killed Tom, who was also a candidate. There are probably others that I can’t think of right now.

You could say that Juliet technically took her own life when she detonated the bomb. And you could also say that Charlie took his own life when he chose to close the door behind him. Yet both of their names are on the cave wall. But, yet in Charlie’s case it would seem that the island was trying to get rid of him from the very beginning…

Then I don’t know if 106 on the wheel says Radzinsky, but it looks like the same name spelled incorrectly as Radzynski. So, if this is Stuart, then how would be be able to put a bullet through his own head? Which makes me wonder if he really did kill himself at all.

I don’t know, maybe if you choose to kill yourself to save others, maybe the island lets you do it because you are not doing it for selfish reasons… Or maybe if you complete the task that the island needed you for in the first place, you are released once it’s completed. Like in Michael’s case when Christian told him, “You can go now Michael!” Or maybe it’s only the current six that have been important for some time now, and all of the others are fair game.

Which none of this really explains why Ben and Widmore can’t kill each other… Or why Smokey can’t kill candidates if they can kill each other… I’m so confused

  2. A gun also jammed on Keamy when he tried to shoot Michael aboard the freighter in the episode Cabin Fever.

I think it can easily be taken as fact that a person that the island is using, or has summoned, cannot die until the island is finished with them just like Mr. Friendly stated and I think Christian also told Michael he could go now.

We see this in other ways such as the dynamite with Jack and Richard and the various accidents that happen to Locke.
