i think i know what Kate’s purpose is (besides being super annoying!)

Written 22nd March

so this one again started off as a comment on a post, i somehow come up with my best ideas while commenting on other people’s posts, this one is due to the “Peripeteia, the Agon…and a Falling Star” post. since the post is super long and my comment is something like #41-42 of a super long thread i wanted to post it separately so that it wouldnt get lost in the awesomeness that is the “Peripeteia, the Agon…and a Falling Star…” theory and i could hear more of your opinions ….

so as we know kate isn’t a candidate, her number isn’t one of the numbers. and we also know that mirrors and mirror effects are very important. so….

15= ford (is sawyer, and a candidate)
51 = austin (kate austin that is)

51 a mirror image of 15? (ok i know technically the 5 would be backwords, but just go with it)

throughout the show kate has had an influence on sawyer, she has been able to calm him down, to make him sit back and think twice, REFLECT upon his thoughts before he acts if you will. so could Kate’s purpose on the island be to be a looking glass of sorts for Sawyer? like every time he was being stupid (like with the guns, shannon’s inhaler, and those other little things) kate would go talk to him, he would realize he was being stupid and change his ways.

I am guessing in the end Sawyer would have some major decision to make that will have a huge effect the island and the losties lives, Kate will have a talk with him and perhaps sacrifice herself so that Sawyer makes the right decision.

i used to have a life before Lost. i remember a time when i had interests and hobbies, but now i seem to have acquired the ability to talk about Lost theories for 8 hours straight, then when i leave and have to hang out with people who dont watch Lost i find myself relating things they say to Lost. i may need help soon! 1. Awesome interpretation, obsessed! I’m gonna go one step further and say, if Kate doesn’t act as a sacrifice, perhaps it’ll be a situation where Sawyer decides he doesn’t want to kill/side with one side– and then she decides to kill/side with that side. In a way, she reflects all the decisions he doesn’t make, or the decision he COULD’VE– yet didn’t– make.

I don’t know if that makes sense, but it goes with my “Kate’s gonna kill Jack” theory. 😉

  2. To go along with your good thought here…

Kate actually succeeded in killing the man who in one way or another ruined her family…she hated the fact that Wayne was her father and her step-father wasn’t her real dad. Sawyer on the other hand, has always been on the hunt to find the man that his mother was having an affair with and in effect, ruined his family. They do have a similar-but-opposite type of thing going on there. Hope it makes sense…it’s late and i’ve enjoyed my wine tonight. 😉

I always like a good Kate discussion. After “What Kate Does” I’ve had similar thoughts on her sacrificing herself eventually. This fits in nicely and I like the use of the numbers especially.

  3. I think Kate has been in on everything all along. Im convinced she is the one pulling the long con. When we thought sawyer was somehow channeling Wayne when he asked “why did you kill me” he was actually talking about himself bc in one of the realities Kate kills sawyer. I think her and Ben have a connection too and perhaps her mom will turn out to be Annie.

  4. ClaireBlueEyes – hummmmmmmmmmm i donno if i believe it but it’s a cool idea, i would love for her to be in on it, i dont think she is but would be a cool twist
