David Wallace (108)
This may be a few weeks past it’s freshness, but I feel it will be a topic that is revisited later on in the show. This issue was discussed in the forums here and I touched on it as a reply to someone else’s post.
In reading on Lostpedia I came across (from link to link to link) the list of candidates in the lighthouse, and it was where we saw a crossed-out “Wallace” (108). Of course, we have not met a Wallace just yet. We also know that being crossed-out does not necessarily mean that person is dead (Straume).
David Wallace was a philosopher of quantum physics who posited the “many worlds” theory. He wrote about the universe splitting off into several copies of itself, one for each possible outcome. Does that not sound exactly like what’s happening in Lost? I think if the writers pay as much homage to philosophers as they have in the past, such homage will be paid to David Wallace for this many worlds theory, and our Wallace 108 will turn out to be a David Wallace. Whether or not it turns out to be Jack’s son David (who could revert his last name back to his mother’s maiden name) is yet to be seen.

what if 108 is wallace and wallace is the original name for MIB when he was a mortal man. Maybe he was one of jacobs candidates that got infected, maybe he was born to an infected mother(crazy mother). Jacob seems to pity him like people would pity a rabbid dog knowing the dog can’t help himself.
Another thought is: we know 108 is the sum of all the nunbers. So would wallace be the sum personalities of the losties. MIB does posses the conning ability of sawyer, the leadership of jack, the drive of kate, the ability os syid, the spitituality of hurley, and the body of Locke.
Thanks for the comment wharfrat77.. I’ve thought about the fact that 108 is the sum of those other numbers, and what it means in relation to the other characters and their numbers. It’s hopefully (and probably) going to be revealed in the last few episodes.
@wharfrat77:
It makes sense to me, since they’ve been keeping MIB’s name in secret. I believe they have a good reason for that.
humm mib as wallace – i like i like! i always thought mib was the original candidate, candidate #1 if you will, and i always thought that his number would be 1, but i guess i didnt really think of the fact that the numbers aren’t really chronological so mib=wallace=108, good idea.
i also like it as being David, obviously if david wasnt important they probably wouldnt introduce him, and it would also make sense that a he is younger than the rest so his number would be later on on the list, and his mama could be another lostie and so he is a combination of losties and so a sum of their numbers.
adayafar also posted a theory saying it was desmond, wallace would be a pseudonym for him kinda like jeremy bentham for locke it’s a long story but go read her theory it makes sense when you read it.
someone else also said that maybe claire’s boyfriend’s last name was wallace, we were never told what it was, and so that would make aaron a wallace.
whoever wallace is, he/she is ganna be important, and possibly locked in widmore’s secret room
Hi Inquisitor, I also believe that the writers may have been making reference to David Wallace because of the ‘many worlds theory’. It makes good sense.
Lostpedia references another Wallace, but I still prefer David Wallace and also made brief mention of him in a theory I wrote awhile back.
This is the Homepage of David Wallace for anyone who is interested in reading more about him. He’s quite brilliant.
