Desmond, 816 and Sacrifice.

Written 7th April

Was just thinking about the very end of this weeks episode and when Desmond asks George for a manifest of flight 816, what exactly made him want to do this? Yes we can presume that he wants to try and show them what he, Charlie and Daniel have experienced, but how does he know that the people of flight 815 will be able to?

During the episode he sees two examples of people having this ‘experience or feeling’. One who was on the flight, Charlie, then one person whom wasn’t, Daniel. He doesn’t know they have both been to the island, all he can see is two people having the same experience as him. So why has he suddenly made this link about the people of flight 815, logically there is no reason to. Unless he knows something else, but I’ll come back to that.

This brings me onto the island timeline and this sacrifice. Now when Desmond wakes up he suddenly is willing to do what Charles wants him to, why? Nothing that has happened in the alt. timeline that he experienced would suddenly make him this willing.

Then minutes after saying that he will help Charles, Sayid comes along, kills two people and he now is willing to go with him. There is something that Desmond is letting on, he knows something more. What if he has experienced more than just the alt.timeline due to being put between the magnets. For a time after detonating the swan he saw visions of the future, well Charlie’s future at least, what if it is happening again now that he is back?

Just something to think about.

  1. We don’t know what all he saw. I think what happened to Desmond in this episode is completely different than what happened in the constant or flashes before you eyes. Flashsideways Desmond and island Desmond both BECAME AWARE of EVERYTHING that has occurred in both universes.

  2. I still believe that the alternate timeline is the scenario in which MIB is on the loose. Desmond saw much more than we did in his flashes, but we can come to the conclusion that he’s trying to avoid whatever happened in the ALT. I’m sure Desmond’s investigation will stem into the other ALT experiences from here on out (Hurley’s is next week for example). Plus, it seems obvious that the whole Penny and Desmond connection is doomed to fail or end in death. The same thing happened with Sun and Jin in their ALT timeline. I have a feeling that Sun will die and Desmond may get Jin’s help in the ALT and prevent their loved ones from dying and MIB from escaping.

  3. Also it makes me think about Desmond “fainting” when he touched Penny’s hand. Where did he flash to and what did he learn? THEN he asks for the manifest, I totally agree with you!

  4. Desmond’s memories have become unlocked and Flight 815 was obviously important in his previous life. He crashed it, met the survivors, named his son after one of them, etc. These are details that would bubble up to the surface once the memories were no longer repressed.
