late night LOST throw down

do you ever find yourself thinking of stuff late at night to the point where you can’t sleep? Hopefully, throwing it down here will help.

Lost has a way of making you think, sometimes a little too much. I think somethings we overshoot the true answers because our imaginations are, lets be honest people, vast and brilliant. Maybe the simplest answer is the true one, the one that fits like another piece of the LOST puzzle. Science is logic, logic is finite…I think. True, logic can be flawed, I mean “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”?! Spock what were you thinking?…why am I talking about Star Trek? YES, logic! So LOST is a show supposedly explained by science and science is logic and here’s what my logic says to me…logic is a bone right?…

Ok, first off: Jacob and MIB are from the alt., or a alt., maybe not THE alt., but none the less they are from an alt. Somehow they end up on the island with their Mother. Perhaps the island exists in different forms in the different realities…interesting…so lets say that in Jacob and MIB’s alt. the island is a door (shout to SK) or a bottle and a cork (think we’ve seen that one) or something else that fits the metephor. We know that there is a mulitverse, an infinite amount of realities, because it would be dumb to assume there are only a few. But I think Jacob and MIB are from the keystone reality, same as our LOSTIES, the one where the island is an island. And so they end up on this island, probably buy the simplest means, a boat, whateves… Now what do we know about mothers? They are loving and warm and kind…and always have a favourite…So Mother Dearest favours jacob because he is fair and fair is pretty and MIB is a brooding little emo who is pent up for momma’s attention. One day MIB gives into his jealousy, the thought that his mother MUST be crazy for not loving him, because he lives in the jungle and he is strong and a man of the land, and Jacob is fair….ya…so he heads off to kill Jacob (flip switch HOO HOOOOO!!!). At this point MIB is in full Anakin-Mode (full of emotion, thinking he’s doing the right thing, ruining my childhood….i hate you Christianson…) He heads to the beach because that is where Jacob and Mother live, in the sun, the light, THE WHITE. MIB on the other hand lives in the jungle, in the shadows, in the darkness. He lives the land (just like Locke does when he gets to the island…hmmmm) He heads to the beach and confronts his fair brother and lunges forward with his blade (the same blade we see passed around time and again. That thing’s like Lindsay Lohan) However, before the blade can find its mark mommy oh mommy jumps infront of Jacob and takes the blade deep in her chest. What a scene we have here folks. MIB standing over the lifeless body of his own mother, with blood on his hands. That is when fair Jacob isn’t so fair anymore. He summons the powers of the island and places a curse on his brother. YOU LIVE IN THE DARKNESS AND SO YOU SHALL BECOME DARKNES!!! or something uber-cool like that. MIB’s body is taken away as he becomes the darkness itself, a giant cloud of black smoke…that doesn’t seem as dark as it used to be, as if something were diluting it, the goodness of John Locke perhaps? Anyway, MIB is cursed and bound to the island for what he did. But he feels guilty. Who wouldn’t? He killed his own mother. Ask his brother and he would tell you MIB is evil incarnate, malevolence, darkness but MIB feels guilt for what he did, he feels the pain. Part of this curse is a fear of water, so MIB could never leave, never go home, never go across the sea…He is stuck on the island, in the shadows, full of rage and guilt. He believes that humans can be corrupted because HE was corrupted. He fell from grace. But Jacob disagrees with him. Jacob sees beyond his brother’s pain and sees the selfish act behind it…but human can be selfless, can’t they?…can’t they? We don’t all give into our selfish desires. Our jealously and our lust, our anger, our fear…these are the ways to the darkside. But there are Jedi among us. Jack is a Jedi. Young he was but strong with the force he is now. Hurley is Yoda…ya…LET THE GAMES begin. Years go by and one day Jacob turns to ol’ Smokey MacGee and says, hey bro wanna play a game?. The rules are simple: Jacob seeks to redeem his brother’s soul by proving the goodness of the human condition, thus proving his brother wrong. If I win, Jacob says, I get your soul (to redeem)….High Stakes indeed. So what do I get, MIB says, and that’s when Jacob puts it all on the table. If you prove me wrong little brother then you get to go home, across the water, across the sea. Well he wasn’t really doing anything else so sure, says MIB…GAME ON!!! so it begins, folks. And the players begn to arrive. Both sides bring them to the island. Jacob had his lighthouse to choose his. MIB had a dark-ass cave with graffiti everywhere. The candidates arrive, good stands against evil but in the end no one is left standing on either side. It’s always a tie. Jacob prove that humans are good but at the same time MIB proves that they are evil. Both sides die and the game rolls on.

MIB doesn’t seem to like Locke much does he? He always insults him when someone aks him why he chose that form. Truth is he is jealous. Locke had the same connection to the jungle that MIB did. He lived the land, knew the trails, smelled the rain before it fell. MIB was jealous of Locke’s connection to the island because it was his connection first. But Locke is a good man, I know it. MIB and Locke are one now because alt. Locke is still alive. The are connected, MIB’s darkness and Locke’s light, and the light is diluting the darkness. MIB has changed since that day at the temple. Aside from tossing Desmond down a well he has been kind and good to his people, he acts like Locke. He reshuffles his bag on his shoulder like Locke. Locke is going to prove MIB wrong and he’s going to do it from the inside out. He is becoming MIB’s soul. And so Jacob will have won for his brother’s soul has been redeemed through Locke. MIB will heads towards the light Carol-Anne. It’s gonna be like the end of GHOST. And Jedi Jack will takes his place as the candidate, because he also feels a conection to the island, the same connection Jacob felt. Jacob is the original Jedi, the O.J, if you will. Jack will stay on the island because that is where his heart tells him he belongs, where he is complete. Alt. Jack will also live happily ever after with his son and soon to be revealled mother, I hope. There is no evil left to fight on the island because good has prevailled and folks, I say this because it is the true answer, they will all live happily ever after.

ya…..so sleep now?

I love LOST....I love lamp...I love chair...but seriously, I think the reason I enjoy this shows, on OH so many levels, is because it is one of the few shows on tv that reallys make you think. There aren't too many shows like that left on tv anymore and sadly we will soon lose another. I'm a philosophically-minded person by nature, always questioning the why's and how's of any given situation. I love the idea of a good paradox and the irony of destiny. I also adore comics books. Can't get enough of them. Since I was 11 they have been my drug of choice. I love overdoesing on old issues of Frank Miller's Dark Knight or Bendis's Ultimate Spiderman. Did I mention Star Wars? I can't say enough how much I love that galaxy far far away. Fanboy says it best. Yes folks, I am a nerd to the nth degree, a dweeb of Chewbaccian proportions...AND I LOVE CHAIR!!!...I mean LOST...

  1. very interesting. Maybe the Alt was “created” by Jacob (or he pushed others – Eloise) to create it so Locke would not be dead and Smokie could not completely take him over…hmmm

  2. haha I’m crackin up whole time reading, my favorite:
“so it begins, folks. And the players begn to arrive. Both sides bring them to the island. Jacob had his lighthouse to choose his. MIB had a dark-ass cave with graffiti everywhere.”
But in all seriousness, one detail you mentioned several times that I hope will come to fruition is John Locke’s “light” diluting the darkness of Smokey. I am so much a John Locke believer, hoping he’s going to resurrect, and this seems like the way he could do it, from the “inside out” like you said..good read.. sleep well, I will sleep well too..
