Deaths of sacrifice = Ticket off island
This may have already been a discussion. I apologize if it was.
I believe that in the last episode everyone will be dead except for Jack. (Although, dead is never really dead on Lost. But I’ll get back to that later). Basically, I believe that every person Jacob brought to the island was brought with a flaw. Here are some examples:
Jack- He had to fix everything, even when it wasn’t broken. He had daddy issues.
Locke- He couldn’t get over his father. He couldn’t accept his condition.
(Note: I think Jack was always the man of faith and Locke was always the man of science, but there conditions flipped them around. By this I mean, Jacks father always told him not to believe in miracles, and when Locke was growing up he excelled in the sciences but neglected to study them because he was teased in high school. ETC)
Sawyer- He wouldn’t let his parent’s death go. He was obsessed with finding the con-man, which he became.
Sayid- He was a torturer and even tortured the woman he loved.
Sun & Jin- Jin became a controlling and awful husband and Sun was unfaithful.
Claire- She wasn’t sure if she wanted Aaron or what will become of him.
Kate- She was extremely selfish and killed her father for her own sake. She always runs from her problems.
Hugo- He was addicted to food and controlled by an imaginary friend and “the numbers”
Charlie- He was a Heroine addict and lost his passion for music.
Desmond- He was a coward and didn’t feel worthy of his one true love, Penny.
Juliet- She was never really treated right and hardly stood her ground. She claimed not to “be a leader”.
I could go on but you get the drift. I believe that each of these main characters we’re brought to the island to redeem themselves in their deaths—Their deaths must be a self-less act. For example:
Charlie died trying to save Claire (and everyone else).
Juliet died trying to save Sawyer from ever coming to the island.
Sayid died running the bomb away from his people.
Jin died to stay by Sun’s side. Sun died trying to find Jin and bring him home.
Locke died trying to bring the Oceanic six back to the island.
Michael died trying to save those on the fretter.
You get the drift. In the season 6 series finale I believe that Jack will be the only man standing. Although, even though they will all be “dead” they won’t really be dead. They will be alive in an alternate universe, where they sort-of remember what happened on the island. Which is “the alt” that we’re seeing in the flash side-ways.
To see if this theory rings true, I have a prediction… in the next episode I believe that Kate will die saving Claire. Since she is extremely selfish and loves Aaron it would be poetic for Kate to sacrifice herself saving Aaron’s real mother.
The only thing I can’t figure out is if Jack is the one who stays on the island, like Jacob, then wouldn’t he seize to exist in the alt-timeline? This makes me wonder if Desmond is actually the next Jacob because he seems to be the one who knows what he is doing in the alt-timeline. I guess only time will tell. Well I hope you enjoyed reading this, feedback is appreciated and encouraged!

you should read my post called “The Alt is the “Real” World”
this is why Widmore doesn’t mind killing people because they are not really dead, they are alive in the Alt/Real World. I think Jack will remain alive in the Real World and on the Island and maybe he will know about each life and this will be how he brings future people to the Island to continue the game – he doesn’t leave the island, he uses his other self (maybe this is how jacob did it – but I’m not sure how he avoided aging in both places though..)
You should not apologize SaraJ for any topics you bring up that may already have been discussed. They all have.
I have been reading the posts here almost since the begining and redundancy is good. It brings back ideas that have been put aside for various reasons and often are given a fresh new spin.
Good thoughts and ideas. I have been thinking all day about a last man standing finale. You may have hit the nail on the head.
Yes, dead is dead in the 2007 timeline, but by introducing an Alt. where all the “good guys” survive they can kill pretty much everyone can’t they? As long as they do a reset i the final episode it all doesn’t matter.
If only one character stays behind to keep MIB in check in the 2007 timeline I am hoping it will be Sawyer. There’s a nice irony to Sawyer, the loner who is fighting like hell to get off the island and always thinks of himself first choosing to stay behind to face off with Locke.
I can picture Sawyer sitting in the sand swilling whiskey. Locke comes over and glares at him. “Do you know how much I hate and want to kill you?” “Hell yes! You know where I’ll be Hoss. Right here waitin’.”
And who could play a better game of long con or Mouse Trap then Sawyer. He is the perfect guy for the job Ive always thought.
I used to think that Sawyer would do a long-con but now I have changed my mind. Mostly because he seems very unsure of himself, we saw this especially with the bomb.
Also, they have been building up Jack so much this season that it wouldn’t really be great writing if they were to disregard him. Especially because he has made the MOST progress out of all of the Oceanic survivors.
Jack is one of the only ones who has almost completely over come his obession. He has showed us time and time again this season that he can “let things go” which was his biggest issue before.
Sawyer sort-of let go of “Sawyer” the con-man, when he killed him. But he still has bitterness and hatred inside of him since Juliets death. Kate sort-of overcame her selfishness by coming to rescue Claire. But, she still put her mission of saving Claire before Jins mission of finding Sun earlier this season.
Basically, what I am saying is that if this is really poetic writing, it just can’t be Sawyer. Not anymore. They havn’t built it up enough to let that happen in just 4 short hours.
I would like to see this though, so possibly I am wrong.
I like the Sawyer idea! I think it will be jack, but I could see these guys flipping it up on us.
it’s actually 4 1/2 hours, the series finale is now 2 1/2 hours!!!
I still think that we will see all of the ones in the island dieing in the next two episodes. Jack included.
And for the end all of the “losties” from the alternative timeline will gather and return to the island with the help of Widmore, Widmore’s wife and Desmond to finish MIB.
This show will not end with Jacob being replaced. It will end with Jacob proving MIB wrong. We, the audience, do not know what this means. The showrunners, Cuse and Lindelof, have said many times that when it ends, there will be no room for future story. So the show ending with MIB on the island with Jacob’s replacement doesn’t make sense.
Thinking about jin and sun’s gift- love.
LOST portrays love as weakness because of Jin & suns death. Now I am left thinking will they have any importance in the end or will they have been useless characters as Lepidus seems to be. (even though he’s a really cool character). You might think that oh he’s a pilot and the devil needs him but if that was true then MIB would not have risked his life in the sub crash and would have protected him like Claire.
