MIB is the Protector, NOT Jacob

I’m just going to throw something out there tonight and see what sticks. Something’s been bothering me about Jacob being the protector of the island which leads me to believe that he’s not the rightful protector of the island and is doing it under false pretenses. The one thing that continues to bother me is this…if you were the protector of the island, would you purposely draw people to it?

I think that Jacob may feel guilty about what he did to his own brother and maybe he’s trying to free his soul by proving a point, that people are good. MIB, however, knows the truth. While there are good people in the world and people can do good things, they can also do very terrible things and are never dependable 100% of the time, we all make mistakes. Even Jacob, who feels as though he stands for the good in people, is guilty of killing his own brother. We’ve also seen, in last weeks episode, that Jacob isn’t exactly a person of free will and free thinking as he was practically brainwashed by “mother” while MIB questioned things and came to his own conclusions. I believe that Jacob is possibly being naive in his way of thinking whereas MIB is thinking in more realistic terms.

This is my proposal, Jacob thinks that he’s in charge of watching over the island but really the MIB is the one who has been protecting it. The smoke monster is the one that is summoned to clean up the mess of the people that threaten the island, he scans them and if he deems them a threat he gets rid of them. While Jacob continues to bring people to the island time and time again, MIB continues to eradicate the people who mean to do the island harm. It’s been thought that “mother” was possibly a smoke monster of some sort which is how she was able to take out the whole colony on her own, she knew that those people were a threat and got rid of them. Smokey knew that the DI were not here to harm the island but to try and use it for good which is why they were able to stay unharmed for so long. This is also why MIB has it out for Charles, it is believed that Charles is out to exploit the island. MIB knows this is wrong and wants to stop Charles.

There are only a few people who are able to come to the island and/or know about the island. The candidates, Charles, Eloise, and Desmond. MIB has tried to kill the candidates, desmond, and would like to get his hands on Charles. So, I believe that where Jacob is trying to prove MIB wrong by constantly inviting people to the island, MIB has a more pessimistic view on people and thinks that if nobody knows how to get to the island, then nobody can harm the island.

I know my idea is kind of crazy and out there, but it just doesn’t seem right that Jacob keeps bringing people to the island that he’s supposed to protect. Let me know what you guys think. Of course tonights show may totally blow my idea out of the water. We’ll find out in a short while.
