Jack after his death on the island.

Hey did anyone ever suggest that Jack would be the new smoke monster? Cus it makes sense in a lot of ways.

– MIB was more trustworthy of science as Jack was, where the new leader of the island Hurley is probably more of a faith guy, like Jacob.

– he woke up in the same place, or at least in the same body position, as MIB after entering the light cave thingy.

– in purgatory Kate said she waited for Jack so long, like at the time I took it as she just had to wait her whole life until she died, but maybe she had to wait til however long Jack’s spirit as the smoke monster got off the island as well. It explains why removing the cork made MIB mortal, so he was able to die and pass on. The same has to happen for Jack to pass on perhaps?

– it be pretty cool.

Thinking about this even more, perhaps anybody who enters the light who is not “permitted” like say Desmond was, turns into the smoke monster. But I dont think turning into the smoke monster necessarily means that person is going to be evil or have a grudge against the protector of the island. That gives more reason to why the writers would characterize MIB so much, he had a single, human motivation. Perhaps it wasn’t his destiny or assignment to be against Jacob, he just chose to be.

So maybe while Hurley and Ben were running things, they talked to a very nice and accommodating Smokie Jack and they just had to find Desmond again so they could let Jack pass on. But knowing Jack, perhaps he pushed that off for awhile, and lent Hurley and Ben a hand on the island. I mean, we know smokie can move a lot of shit, plus Jack would be a good leader while Hurley and Ben were off island.

The writers said the show was about the characters, and it was, and all the shit that the Losties went through were result of Jacob’s and MIB’s character. MIB was pissed (who wouldn’t be, his life wasn’t that great, psycho mom and all) so a lot of shit happened. And perhaps Jacob could have easily went over seas and just gave a few people a job application to take over the island, but he and his brother liked to play games, so they did.  they both got a God complex or something. And you know what? Thank goodness cus there wouldn’t have been much of a show if the two of them just hugged it out and got along.

Oh and another thing…

…like the mysterious Mom of Jacob and MIB, she was probably both the protector and the smoke monster. Like why not be both? But then if the same procedure had to happen with the cork being removed to make smokie mortal, how she was killed so easily? My answer, it’s fricken LOST and there was probably a loophole or exception that really doesn’t have much logic behind it, but you just have to go with it.

Like maybe because she was both smokie and the light protector allowed her death to be easier, or honestly the fact she didn’t get first word in, or maybe just because the rules don’t apply to her as much. It’s LOST, if the show ever had a straight set of definitive rules the show would have been called FOUND.

  1. I believe (Jack I Theory) Jack was later revived in the Pool at the Temple by Hugo and Ben to become the new Protector and in the light of your theory (no pun) the Smoke Monster as well. These roles although representing good and evil during this era were neither as we later learned. And as you said, the MIB had an agenda to get off the Island; this coupled with an anger management problem that festered for centuries made him what he was in contrast with Jack who voluntarily went back to the Island to fulfill a destiny. Yin and yang would be probably better describe these roles overall.
In the recently released 12 minutes epilog, it is implied Walt is offered the job of the Protector. Perhaps Jack doesn’t want or cannot keep the two jobs. Who gets which job not sure but I believe Hugo didn’t want the Protector’s job and therefore gave it up to one of these fine fellows

  2. I think all this talk is purely with a vision for lost as a new series, movie, etc. In that vein, I think it’s definitely possible that Jack lives on at least on the island. Either as a ghost, or the smoke monster, or what I think would be the best for him. That would be that Jack is not the smoke monster, but otherwise has the same abilities as MIB did. To take on the forms of dead people and to ultimately take on the form of one of these bodies permanently. Think about that in respect to a new television series. We could have Jack without having to have Matthew Fox portray him.
I guess now a days, I think of everything in terms of a new Lost tv series somewhere down the line.

  3. Also, since I think the way I do, I don’t think Walt was asked to come back to the island to be the Protector. The video doesn’t say that and their are so many other JOBS on the island.

  4. Oh yeah, and I don’t really care what Darlton or the rest of the writing team wanted us to think about the show. They left many things vague or unanswered on purpose. To me that means me or the writers of the next series can answer them any way they want. And I didn’t hate the way Lost, the first TV series ended, however, I didn’t like not getting answers. And for this, I’m glad Lost and Darlton were not rewarded with any Emmy awards.

  5. I have been under the believe whether it be clairvoyance (yeah right) or wishful thinking (warmer) there should be a spin-off series. Not to mention there appeared to be openings left for such purpose. If I may, the show’s mythology should be addressed quite readily without omitting the balance with character evolution if a new show came to be. Is this an unreasonable request?

Since Lost ended (although it is still the Summer) a large TV void remains to be filled and in the near future if we’re lucky, it will be plugged and titled “Lost the real beginning”.

And yes it is very possible (nice thought) and deservedly so, the producers fared poorly at the Emmys due to fan dissatisfaction over the final season. And what was that about ABC stating the original idea of the statue having six toes was weird so they decided to give it four? Will this be a subject for William Shatner to discuss on his new show?

  6. There will be more Lost, somewhere down the road. Maybe a Lost movie, a new network series, or a cable series. I’m hoping for the latter as this could be done sooner, maybe even within the next few years. Obviously it would have to be made on the cheap compared to the first network series. Let me be the first to nominate Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad to be on the new series. Maybe that show will end in a couple of years and he’ll need some work.

  7. Matthew Fox as well as many of the main case were terrific actors. And Fox will always be Jack in my view, not to dismiss the idea of other actors playing the role.
Because the show was so intriguing I’m open to the show’s return in whatever fashion!

  8. Correction – Matthew Fox as well as many of the main cast are terrific actors.
If Lost did spin-off it would be great to see Fox and some of the originals return if not on a regular basis.
