Possible Explanation of the Loophole

Written 16th March

Hello everyone, I’ve read lost theories for years and this is the first time I have ever written one and for that I apologize if its not well written or any other sign of an amateur theory proposer. It probably has alot of holes so feel free to rip it apart in the comments section. If this theory has been mentioned before on this site I apologize, though I did look and didn’t see it. If it has, please post in the comments a link to your theory as you will get all the credit and I’m sorry for taking credit for your idea.

Now for the theory. I use MIB to represent the smoke monster.

The Loophole remains a mystery. I believe that the loophole comes from a couple of rules that have been put in place for Jacob. Rule #1 is that only a candidate can kill Jacob. Rule #2 is that if Jacob dies, a remaining candidate will shortly replace him. Rules #3 is that whenever there is a new jacob, there are a new set of 360 candidates to replace this new Jacob. The loophole from this is that if MIB is able to convince a candidate to kill Jacob, it doesn’t matter because another Candidate would simply take his place and the MIB would still have a rival. This meant MIB could never control the island because there would always be either Jacob or a new Jacob there to conter balance him for the island.

MIB’s solution was to get the last remaining candidate (I’ll explain shortly) to kill Jacob. By killing Jacob they are no longer a candidate. This would mean Jacob is dead and that no one could replace him because there are no more candidates.

Ben was the man who killed Jacob. We’ve seen the name Linus among the possible 360 candidates. I think he was still a candidate until the moment MIB’s knife killed jacob. At this point MIB thought he had finally gained contol of the island. This was until Jacob said “they’re coming” which was a reference to the losties in the 70’s. In season 5 when MIB first approached Richard ar John Locke, Sun soon came over and asked about the 70’s losties and Richard said infront of the MIB that he saw them all die. MIB’s interpretation of this comment was the 6 candidates (Jack, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, Jin, Hurley) are now dead, leaving Ben as the final candidate. Now his plan will work as his loophole will work with just 1 candidate remaining. When Jacob said “they’re coming” it did seem like MIB was stressed, in a “What? they’re are more candidates? Richard lied and they aren’t dead?” kind of way as he just realized his plan didn’t work. Now MIB is in a rush to leave the island because he knows he only has a short amount of time to leave the island before another candidate takes Jacob’s place and it becomes impossible to leave again.

The big hold up to this is that we don’t know which Kwon is the candidate, but I think MIB knows its Jin and lied to sawyer earlier this season. Anyways, as I said before, fell free to insult this to no end. I’m sure its got many holes. However, Thanks for reading!!!! Hope you like it.
