Tenerife

Written 24th March

I did a little research on the island that Ricardo is from, and found some interesting parallels. First, in the 14th and 15th century Tenerife was referred to on maps as Isla del Infierno, literally meaning Island of Hell. Second, according to legend the island is the uppermost peak of what is left of Atlantis. We all know that has been a theory from the very beginning. Third, the theme of two seems to show up frequently in the island’s history. The island is said to have black sand beaches in the north and light sand beaches in the south. Tenerife is also the only Spanish island that has two ports and two airports. Lastly, the Tenerife Disaster was the largest commercial airline disaster in history. It involved two planes and happened in 1977 (The Incident). I found all of these things very interesting, but don’t know how many questions they answer. I am sure that it is not a coincidence that this island was chosen as the home for our beloved Ricardo. I believe that Ricardo is still going to play a huge part in the show. He has been there so long, I equate him to a history book. He has seen Candidates come and go and has seen the mistakes they made. I also found it interesting that his redemption on the island was to not take responsibility for Isabella death, when he did actually kill someone (the doctor).
