okay so remember the black smoke from season 1? i have a theory about that. i think the black smoke is all the people who are dead or something important like that. one clue to support my theory is in one episode last season, jack was working in the hospital and the

The smoke alarm in the hospital wasn’t going off because of smoke, it was beeping because the battery was dying, remember we saw Jack replace the battery just before this woman came by and talked to him at the hospital.
Yeah, which was odd since they probably wouldn’t use battery operated smoke detectors in a building like that…
Is Claire necessarily dead?
I think Claire’s status is still open for debate. I think she’s dead. Not everyone thinks so though.

just a thought to add…. was watching the pilot etc again and when they were talking about looking for the cockpit, kate said she thought she saw smoke through the (valley?).. doesn’t mean it was coming from the cockpit though… could be she saw smokey?
