Interesting observation HurleyBird.
Locke, the man of faith turns away from science again and again.
But Daniel never does or is never really given the choice between his gift and his love for music. Had he chosen music would he have ended up on the island because it was his destiny?
I loved his answer to his mother ‘I can make time’…
I think he’s just stuck in a cycle. The only way to keep daniel from dying is for him to learn more than he did in his previous cycle.
Daniel keeps a journal which she gives to him when he graduates, he goes to the island, she kills him, picks up his journal…. the gives it back to him when he graduates. The journal is constantly building more information for him to learn from each cycle.
He learns a bit more, he fails in whatever attempts he makes, she convinces him to go back to the island (knowingly sacrificing him), kills him again, picks up his journal, gives it back to him after he graduates…. but this time it has his test results & whatever else he learned from the last cycle.
eventually he’ll succeed instead of messing up his mind and Teresa’s.
