Was the pilot the beginning?
I’m not sure where I heard it but, someone said that the producers of the show said the biggest clue is in the pilot episode. With this in mind I watched it again, and I discovered that it seems Jack has done this before. What I took for just regular TV placement of characters I now take for Jack’s purpose.
What if the last episode is Jack going back in time and reliving the first day when they crashed on the island? Also…Jacob tells the MIB-“It only ends once, everything else is just progress” What if the ending is when the loop stops? What if in the end they send Jack back to change something so it will end?
Also….Charlies’ reaction to the smoke monster was “Terrific”…like he wasn’t surprised-more sarcastic…like “here we go again”
There are holes in this theory so please feel free to help me out here.

I watched the first 3 episodes last night, and I agree with you. It seems that Jack knows exactly where he’s running, and only really “checks on” the important character of the show. And why was he so far away from the other passengers?
Other things I noticed:
-When they first hear/see the monster on their first night, Rose says how familiar that sound is to her
-Also when the monster first makes its appearance, Walt asks if its Vincent-why on earth would he think that?
-When Kate, Jack and Charlie are walking to the cockpit to look for the transceiver, Kate asks Charlie if they know each other from somewhere, because she feels like she knows him from somewhere, he obviously assumes its because he’s a semi famous musician, but what if its really because they’ve done this all before, and just don’t remember?
-Amy special meaning to the white tennis shoe Jack runs past after he wakes up? Whose shoe was that?
-I also notice that when Charlie is writing on his fingers is F-A-T-E, I thought that was kinda interesting, is it their fate to be stuck in some loop until they make the “correct” choices?
-Several times in the pilot episode people ask, “Have they come for us?” or “why haven’t they come yet”? Maybe there’s a double meaning in that ?
-When Locke is playing backgammon with Walt, he asks him if he can tell him a secret, I dont remember ever finding out what that secret is…
-Also Jack disappears right after the smoke monster is chasing him and Charlie, where did he go? He’s gone for quite a bit.
-I’m also starting to think that maybe Locke was “bad” the entire time…all the things that he did to keep people from leaving the island, always explaining himself by simply saying, “the island told me so”…he seems really kinda weird and off in the first season, idk ,just a thought
-I also think there’s way more to Vincent the dog than we think-he’s always there when something big happens and he’s the first person/thing that Jack sees when he wakes up-that should mean something–maybe he’s Jacob–he kinda looks like him-LOL
-I also noticed in later series that Ben always says, “you’re not supposed to do that” or “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” .
Let me know your thoughts!
The writers have stated that this information regarding the pilot episode is untrue.
However, having said that, I feel that the ‘shot’ of Jack in the jungle is reminiscent of a ‘loop’, IMO.
Imnotobsessed- I totally saw all the things you listed…and you’re right I don’t ever remember learning the secret that Locke shared with Walt. Also I read somewhere that Vincent is going to stay on till the end of the show, that’s pretty secure for a dog who we rarely see.
Also when Locke is speaking to Walt, I love this conversation, he talks about backgamon and how it’s the oldest game. Then holds up both game pieces side by side and says it’s “Dark v. Light” not black v white…Is it another way of saying good v evil?
Now that I think about it you could be completely right that Locke was bad from the start, but after watching the pilot with this new theory it just seems like there’s too many things happening that shouldn’t be if this is the first time it happens, I really think Jack remembers and it’s more like de ja vu for everyone else.
Also side comment, the book Jacob is reading while waiting for Locke to fall from the building is a book about a fateful trip a son and Mother take and it discussed the conflict between black and white. If you look at that in terms other then race it could fit with the whole good v bad.
i thought exactly the same when i re-watched the pilot..
thought it was strange that when they (jack/kate/charlie) are discussing looking for the cockpit that kate mentions she saw soome smoke (i think it was smokey) yet as far as i can think, i dont think i saw smoke coming out of the cockpit when they got there (correct me if i’m wrong), but they still knew where to look for the cockpit.
also, jack being so far out in the forest is a bit weird, *although* when him and kate found the briefcase that had the guns(?) in, in the pool, that was a bit further out than anything. it does seem strange that jack would be the only person to be away from the beach, especially as he was sat next to rose and she was at the beach (boone tried to ressussitate(sp?) her.)
