Trading Places’..#815 & #316′.Episode6
Ben told Jack, Locke is the ‘proxy’ for Christian and he must get an item belonging to Christian for Locke to carry with him. Jack chooses Christian’s shoes.
The ’06’ must create similar circumstances to flight #815, otherwise flight #316, may cause uncertain results, according to Ms. Hawking.
1. Frank Lapidus replaces his friend who piloted #815.
2. Sayid replaces Kate, wearing handcuffs.
3. Sun is carrying Jin’s wedding ring, replacing him.
4. Hurley is carrying a guitar case, replacing Charlie.
5. Kate is carrying Jack’s child, so she replaces Claire. (yep, you heard it here)
6. Jack is carrying Locke’s suicide note, so Jack replaces him.
No doubt, there will be several other survivors from #316. Any guesses??

Dabs- very interesting!! especially the part of kate!
lostfan, I had to consider Kate possibly carrying something of Aaron’s with her, but it wouldn’t really be duplicating flight #815.
Kate and Jack were “close”, the night before boarding flight #316, so that’s where my $$$ are.
Also, the dark menacing character who speaks to Jack in line at the ticket counter, says the exact words, Sayid spoke to Jack in line before boarding #815.
“I am deeply sorry for your loss”.
Thanks for bringing this up.
I really liked this set-up for the return. Do you mind if I tangent for a moment?
I liked how Hurley bought out the 78 tickets, and as he looked around at all the people waiting on stand-by, it could have been perceived that he didn’t care. But good old Hurley with the ginormous heart, didn’t want the mom with the kids or anyone else getting on that plane and crashing on that island. So in a way, Hurley was offering the opposite perspective to Ben’s “who cares?” attitude about everyone else.
Which brings me to my thought on your ideas.
Wouldn’t you think that Widmore isn’t quite in the dark about this flight 316? I am thinking that for all the conversations about the Losties being “planted” on 815 originally, THIS is the flight with some people planted.
I think Jack’s new little friend in the back is one of them — the one who commented “sorry about your friend” — wouldn’t it make sense that Widmore or Hawking or Ben even for that matter have more interest in the island beyond the O6 return? Jack’s little buddy seems like a good Widmore candidate, as does Sayid’s ‘apparent’ Marshall.
We know that Ben has connections with people like Jill, that seem to have some knowledge of what is going on.
Widmore has sent people with purposes to the island as we’ve seen with all the freighter crew.
And now Hawking, she knows all about Dharma stations, finding the island, the windows, etc.
I just don’t buy that any of them would just leave it to Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and Sun being the only ones DESTINED for the island. Which is what we’ve tossed around for the last four seasons with 815 passengers, so then my mind goes back to some of the original lists that Ben would reference when they were taking people like Cindy.
(Hope I’ve made sense. I haven’t had enough coffee yet after last night’s episode.)
As always, great conversation starter Dabs!
Hi kimberly! You are definitely making all of the right connections!
We were typing at the same time, so you likely didn’t catch my comment about the man, I feel is replacing Sayid.
We all know what a huge pain, Kate’s Marshall was, so I expect to see fireworks from her!
You are correct in saying that Widmore, Ben and Hawking have enormous interests, in how this whole thing plays out.
I believe in addition to ‘the losties’ on board, there are going to be some passengers who will be opposing them, once they get sorted out, back on ‘the island’.
I think we can’t lose sight of ‘who’ the parties are that are in control, and manipulating these events.
Great catch on Hurley/Ben’s comments. Again, white vs. black!
Nice observations! Way to get the conversation, rolling!
Wow really good spot dabs. One thing that struck me was how Jack woke up very similar to the first episode as i thought it would be….
Is there any reason why the circumstances had to be the same btw? and what happens to the other peeps on the plane because as far as we know the plane didnt crash..
whatistime, Jack waking up in the same spot, was brilliant! I loved it!
I would say the plane broke apart the same as #815. If you recall, one section was on the beach, and the tail-section further inland. I suspect that is how it will play out.
I can’t say with any certainty ‘why’ it’s so important to recreate the original circumstances, except for, it is part of ‘the rules’. The repetitiveness helps recreate the original events.
I can’t see too many survivors because there is only the second 2/3rds of season 5 and then season 6 to conclude. We can’t have too many stories rolling from here on out, or else it will take too much time away from the important stuff.
I loved the Kate carrying Jack’s child idea.
As for the other O6 carrying stuff, it will be interesting to see who told them all what to do and who convinced them and how.
cappayne, I suspect the number will be limited.
I know Charlie told Hurley. Sayid, clearly got himself into a bind, which placed his status automatically, and Sun had been given Jin’s ring by Ben. The flight attendant, told Jack, Locke’s suicide note fell from the coffin, boarding, so…….
I don’t think it will be too confusing to follow.
This is a great post Dabsi, seriously, great catch with the subs. I do have one question though. How long ago was it that Jack and Kate have been…together, other than the night before. And if more than a few months, is such a close encounter between them, the day before, enough to know she is already pregnant? Not taking anything away, just trying to make this make sense. I love the idea.
If she is pregnant im guessing she doesnt know yet. It did seem really weird how they got in on like that so i think she could have a bun in the oven…
Hi AES, I don’t know how long it was before, Jack and Kate were together before the night before the flight.
It would be too soon, for anyone to definitively know if she’s pregnant, but given the fact the circumstances were supposed to be duplicated, I figured it was one HUGE possibility! lol
And I do as well. I am seriously amazed at the way you put all those things together. It never even crossed my mind. The guitar a little, but only because it was in the opening scene.
Hi, When I saw Sayid in handcuffs, and Hurley with the guitar case, I knew Sun had Jin’s ring.
Then, I saw Locke’s letter get slipped to Jack, so I tried to fill in any other possibilities.
I thought Claire would have been a big one, as death was a huge issue as well.
Also, the guys words to Jack at the ticket line, so it fell into place.
I still feel like I missed something, though. But, I don’t know what!
I kept going back to Ms. Hawking’s words about ‘proxy’ and recreating the events as close to the crash, as possible.
So, there you have it!
Btw…Dabsi…THIS is not fun. This makes my head hurt, and angry because you did such a great job of picking up on these wonderful clues and I did not.
Therefor..It must be a theory.
;]
seriously, more people read theories than fun, I think, and this is gold,
Always the sweet one, AES. I do want other people to post their theories, and don’t want to be a hog!
BTW, do you know how many times, you’ve made my head hurt???
But, let me tell you. It’s the best feeling in the world!
You rock, my friend!
Anyone know where Ben went when he tells Jack he will give him some privacy? This just before the crash?
I think he went to the loo (proxy for Charlie?)
The guitar already serves as a proxy for Charlie no?
All I can remember is he 100% moves forward in the plane. And past Hurley for sure.
Andre7, Great pickup on Ben giving Jack some privacy. The ‘loo’ makes sense to me!
cappayne, I think in a way the items they are carrying do serve as a proxy for each of them.
