A new take on the Whispers

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but this is my first post on here!

I have an inkling that the Whispers are actually our friends the castaways travelling through time as they have been doing and are bearing witness to the events we have season through the first 4 seasons. To avoid bumping into each other, and even casuing a rift in the space time continium ala Back to the future, they can only watch from a far, like the scene where Sawer saw Claire giving birth to Aaron with Kates help. What if all the scenes we have seen where we have heard the whispers, the losties have travelled back and are watching and discusisng it.

There is probably some holes in this theory but i loved it when Back to the future 2 came out and we saw all the scenes we had seen in back to the future 1, but from a different perspective, and it seems like Lost, as it already has done with may scenes previously be shaping up like this.

  1. A welcome contribution Dharma-spy! Keep posting.

I think some of the other contributors here need to be pulled back sometimes to re-evaluate where some of these niggling details like the whispers fit in to their grander theories.

I love to read the more fleshed out ideas of Dabs and AES and others, but it is so cool to hear the new whispered voice from the wilderness (pun intended) like the slave on Ceasar’s chariot reminding us that we are mortal and we are not really privy to what happens in the writer’s room.

I would like to hear your thoughts on Cindy and the other passengers who were taken to a ‘better life’ by Ben and his group. Cindy says to Jack in season 3 that they are there to ‘watch’. Do you think this fits in at all with the whispers?

  2. Well Andre7, it could be that this “better life” they speak of is the introduction into the faction of the others so deeply (think room 23) that there consiouos or even sub consious develops into that of a full blown Other, or even Hostile/ orignal islander so that they will not experience the horrifying side effects that the other Losties are now having to deal with. Maybe this is why they also took Zack and Emma in season 2, the only kids, why they wanted Walt and Aaron. We know that Walt went in the room, perhaps Zack and Emma went in there, as well as Cindy, and thus were “saved” from any potential death like the Lodties are facing now. We know from what Richard said that he and the others didnt disappear in the season opener when the island moved, but Locke did. So Ben and the Others have “saved” all ther Losties who they took under their wings!

Just a thought but would make sense as to why Ben thinks he is one of “the good guys” – season 2 finale!

    what do you think??

  3. Dharma-Spy, this is exactly what the ‘whispers’ are!

I wrote a theory called, The Island, The Phoenician Connection & The Numbers.

In it, I give a detailed description of how and why it works with the whispers. Give it a read, if you get a chance.

  4. I always thought “there to watch” meant out in the real world, off island. I dont think they “took” Cindy once they were on the island. She was a part of the whole thing.
Dabs and I fleshing our theoreies out, we merely try to explin things such as “why” they haer the whispers of themselves rather than just saying it.
But I too appreciate theories when newcomers post. And as Dabs said, check out her among others theories on the subject. Dont worry about reposting an old thought. Never know, may have one small difference that could make people view their own theory from a different perspective.
See Andre, I cant even write a simple comment without the “fleshing” ;]

  5. Well stated, AES!

To further that thought a bit, I think it’s important for another reason, to get similar ideas out for others to read.

Everyone articulates their ideas differently, and express themselves accordingly.

While people may not subscribe to an idea, because of what one theorist says, another theory may be the one, that speaks to you and convinces you, something is valid.
